S280 P / R reg, opinions again please folks
Discussion
Hello Again,
Further to my recent ramblings, E classes look promising, but I had a gander at an S280.
What a car, bit big, granted, but seemingly built very well, what are their achilles heels?
With the E class it seems to be rust (as pointed out by a couple of ph'ers when I asked)
Or should I not bother and continue E or c class hunting.
It would do probably 6k a year, the school run, and motorway trips from Bristol to somerset, or Bristol to London.
What do you think? Daft or not daft - Bear in mind I used to run a BMW 540 steptronic.
Forgot to add, I have a brain numbing TVR for thrills, a volvo 940 shed as support car so a waftomatic safe family car would be ok.

Noooooooooooooo! well under powered (BMW 728i goes much better) you want an S320 at the very least, lets face it, the 2.8 is only adequate(sp) in an E class.
Honestly Mike, the only 'Chairmans Wheels' I'd consider with a bit of age in it is the LS400, by far and away the most reliable and cheapest to run and its got a proper engine thats quite frugal

If its a wafter your after I honestly challenge you to find
1. A better equiped one
2. A more Reliable one
3. A more economical one
4. A Better Made one
Buy from an owner whose upgrading to a newer model (and has probably had a couple of earlier ones!)
LS400 owners on the whole ONLY change for a newer one!

Mike,
A word of advice, my friend.
The S Class probably cost nigh on 60 grand when new. Ergo, parts for it will reflect the new price.
I'm currently finding this out with the SL - theres no such thing as a cheap part for it!
However, just for balance I have been in Dazs ex-S500 and it was fabulous, silent, off the waft-o-meter scale.
Good luck in your search.
Greg
