2005 Mercedes E 280 cdi oil viscosity

I'm struggling to find the right oil to servicing my E Class, a quick Google suggests differing viscosity, anybody know which one is right? It's due a service before the weather breaks.

Oil spec 229.51 or .52. I have run an 09 E320 diesel on 05w 30 oil to 169k mikes without issue.

Thanks for that, it comes up with a plethora of viscositys when you out the numbers in but 05a 30 it is theb, fully synthetic

It does't HAVE to be 5w/30, though the vast majority of approved 229.51 oils are 5w/30, as is MB's own-branded 229.51

(229.5 oil for petrol cars is generally 5w/40).

Approved list, if of any help, though there are others that 'meet' the spec without having been 'approved'.
