So I had Mrs DS’s SLK350 in at our local independent this morning for an A service.

This car is one owner, her sister’s old car and we 100% know the history (it’s why we bought the car); it’s exemplary.

2005 car, 59k as of today and it has been serviced correctly pretty well always at MB and those show an electronic service sheet.

Due to the condition and history of the car I’d like to keep this electronic history up to date (I have a big folder of paper documentation but I want it “done right).

However the lady at the indie couldn’t get the MB digital system to accept the VIN, reg plate (any the car has had) and seemed to think the car is too old - but it has got an electronic service record.

Anyone any ideas? Anyone work for Merc/an indie who knows how they can get the service added?

As you can see - plenty of digital records…

Mine is a 2009 and I have the online one only, there is no service book. You may have just an issue with data access though.

When I bought mine in 2020, I was able to access the records via the Mercedes Me app and display & print off a Digital service record for my own use. Due to data access changes, only main dealers and independent service agents who presumably pay a 'fee' can update and / or access it. I'm not permitted frown

2005 is too old normally, earliest I’ve been able to add one was a late 2008/early 2009 model. Interesting.

I agree - but as you can see it has it.

I've checked my 2009 car's paperwork, and mine are called a 'Digital Service Report' if that makes a difference?

There may be a Mercedes database that maintains a record of services of the car 'electronically' but is not actually the Digital Service record that all Mercedes cars started to move towards in 2008. scratchchin

I do wonder if you are right - my SL shows the service and on the following pages the previous services.

I don’t suppose that it really matters; at the end of the day to a prospective buyer the thing that matters is the great big thick pile of service records and receipts. And we aren’t planning on getting rid of it as it’s a pretty well perfect example.

There is some confusion here.

DSB - Is Mercedes's digital service online service record. It replaces the service book - circa 2010?

You need a dealer login to Mercedes to update this and you must be a registered business. Your vehicle, 2005 is too old for this and you will have a manual service book somewhere in the vehicle.

A really simple check to see if your Merc is a DSB or not, is if you find the service manual, you will have a pocket at the back of the book for copies of the digital entries and you will also have no stamp points in the manual book either. If it isn't DSB, you will have plenty of stamp spaces within.

ESS - Electronic service sheet - This is the offical Mercedes service check list that predominantly dealers use to accompany the service.

The idea of the ESS is it predicts what is due and when in addition to the basic service: air filter/fuel filter/brake fluid/gearbox fluid etc and differentiates between A + B Services (more checks on a B, with pollen + key batts).

Whilst ESS is useful to the consumer, it's fairly useless as most garages, dealers don't follow suit and customers also don't always want to pay for service additionals, they'll just have the basic service.

This means the ESS recommendations are ideal based on absolutely correct previous servicing. Realistically the history must be checked by the servicing garage to ensure the correct intervals are followed and advised to suit.

ESS is actually available for anyone to use, so you can create your own service sheets. Link below:
