hi All,

Newbie to Pistonheads.

I'm looking for advice on MB GLC SUV, as I'm looking to buy one in the near future. My budget will probably enable me to purchase a 2017-1018 model.

I need it to tow a caravan, and I'm not sure which diesel engine would be best, I was looking at the 350d , but where doesn't seem to be many around without high mileage, what are the other engine sizes like for towing?

Check the chassis plate on the door jamb. Bizarrely not all Mercedes cars are homologated to tow!

It tells you the towing weight of the vehicle. Some of them are blank - no towing. Not saying this affects the GLC but it certainly does some C and E class models. If you find a car with a factory fitted tow bar it will be ok.

I don’t know if you’ve sorted this now, but if not ….. I have a 2017 GLC 350d that I use to tow my caravan - it is an excellent towing vehicle, plenty of torque and makes easy progress. I tried the 4 cylinder versions (albeit not towing) and found them to be a bit underpowered and unrefined.
