boot lid wont open...
Discussion
I have recently acquired a 2002 C Class Avantgarde. It was my (now deceased) father in law's. Not planning on keeping it but it works fine whilst I am in between cars and cost very little.
Today I used the button on the remote to open the boot lid but it just gave the sound of a whirring latch and failed to open. The same with the button on the drivers side door. It also wont open using the boot lid catch to the rear.
Any thoughts on how to override the switch/catch or am I left with taking it to a specialist?
Many thanks for any thoughts and comments.

Have you tried putting the key in the boot lid lock?
(Turn the key anti clockwise before pressing the latch button in)
Sadly I have. Turned it to the left and there was no action from the lock 'flap'. It seems as if I may need to get the car to a specialist. Perhaps the relevant fuse is duff or a cable is caught somewhere inside the boot.(Turn the key anti clockwise before pressing the latch button in)
I had to use pliers on the key to make it operate, lack of use and you have to fully turn the key to make it work. Difficult to turn by hand due to being underneath the boot lid. I would turn the key, gently, using a pair of pliers, you will get more purchase and I found it was the last millimetre of turn that actually released the boot.
Try squirting WD40 up into lock as well, not a fan of it but any releasing agent will do

Would hate to damage it though. Best to wrap it in cloth etc?Try squirting WD40 up into lock as well, not a fan of it but any releasing agent will do
