E320CDI Rust bubble
Discussion
My 3 year old E320 CDI has developed a rust bubble under the lock area of the boot. It is a UK spec Belgian import and the last service was done by an independent specialist although the one before was done by MB official dealer (but they screwed that up!) My question is: will this be covered by any kind of warranty by MB? - Does anybody have any experience in this area? Many thanks.
Sorry, but the Mobilo life cover is breakdown assist only. Paint comes under the anti-perforation warranty. Checked with the guys at work; every case is decided on its own merits. If all paint is original and no repairs been carried out AND the corrosion is definately from the inside out, then maybe, just maybe your claim will be successful. Good luck.

The brochure says:
"mobilo-life includes a lifetime warranty against bodywork corrosion. Valid for 30 years, you can pass its benefits on to the car's next owner."

I'll check from work tomorrow. More than likely they will squirm out of any claim. Very unlikely place for rust to appear unless the boot had been damaged/attacked before. They don't rust as a rule (they break down for sure),,,,
I believe the contrary is true.. they DO rust as a rule. An acknowledged problem on the W210 saloon and wagon, and I've also seen it on the current S-class too. Always on the bootlid, if I recall it's to do with some new rust-proofing/metal-stretching process??

There is I dare say an issue with rust on some cars, but on my small (6 cars or so) sample of early W210s I looked at before buying, there was none on any of them, even underneath the rubber window seals. So it may be common but perhaps not as widespread as some would have you believe.
It is very common for W210s to rust. From what I can gleam there are more with rust issues that those without. Started to get better in 2000/2001.
Younger cars will have rust probs that arent easy to spot initially eg under tailgate by lock/handle, under rubbers on doors, on suspension mounts, on engine mounts, on chassis, under wings, under doors etc...
Mercedes will generally sort - albeit no MBSH and stone chips and accident repairs start to complicated things.

Even the new shape S class rusts-a friend has a 2000W S500 with rust on every wheel arch- it is to do with the sealer between the 2 panels. Merc are replacing front wings-sandblasting the back and respraying the car-cost £4k but they are footing the bill-Things got much better after the facelift in 2002 apparently! My friend is so peed off. Spent £60k on the car and its rusty+they are lending him a Smart car during the repair!
