Strange one this, originally i bought car, test drove it and it was fine(bought privately).Car drove absolutely spot on,started, idled, drove perfectly.
However one day i was doing 60mph and floored it to pass two cars and the engine fault light came on,slight loss of power but got home fine.(fault code 11b800,
"The control deviation during rail pressure regulation via the quantity control valve is too high"
So decided to service it,air filters were minging!!And replaced fuel filter.
Car seemed ok,on a 30 mile return trip to run a couple of neighbours to an appointment on the way home it broke down, cut out completely with incidentally 1/4 of fuel
AA guy came out and pretty quickly when i told him code i read with my little phone app p0087 he said the fuel tank/saddle tank design can cause problems when fuel gets lowish, sure enough he checked for fuel and it sputtered out, then got better and better and started,he said go to get fuel and car will be fine,it was and i got home!
I've heard of a thing called saddle tank syndrome, fuel pump in tank depends on fuel return from High pressure fuel pump which then acts on a venturi system which draws fuel from one side of the fuel tank to the other.
What could possibly cause a fault to stop this fuel transfer from not occuring?I'm sure this is my problem, few people even saying their cars run out of fuel at 1/2 a tank!!
Any ideas?Thanks.

Happened with the OHs old C class coupe once. Ram out of fuel. Wouldn’t run right even when it had a couple of gallons poured in. Once it’s been fully filled it was fine thereafter.
