Hi everyone,

I’m looking to buy my first Mercedes, and I just stopped on C class from 2015-2017. Really like this car and I would like to ask if is anything in particular to look after ? Mechanical, model, stuff like that. If someone could give me a couple advice I will really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot! ✌️

Go for the two litre Petrol rather than the diesel to avoid troublesome ad blue system and possible camchain issues.

I easily managed to get over 50MPG out of my Sport and knocking around town it hovered around 35 mpg. It is also much quieter and smoother than the diesel. They have a satisfying amount of thrunge, too. Depending on what you are used to, with everything set to Sport+ they can feel surprisingly brisk.

Engine light illuminated on the petrol will probably be the Nox sensor. There used to be an issue getting hold of them from Mercedes but I am not sure whether this is still a problem.

The faux leather seats can split along the stitched seams but this isn't a particularly expensive problem to remedy.

The sat nav isn't the greatest and if you can get one, pick one with the Burmister sound system. The standard system never sounded good in mine, regardless of what I did with the settings.

The Sport model is the best compromise between handling and comfort. The SE comes with tiny wheels and horrible shiny black plastic trim and although they look great, the AMG line rides too harshly for most situations.

The seats in all models are comfortable and the fold down rear seats being fitted to all models make them quite practical even in saloon form. The bits of the car you actually touch during day to day operation feel really nice as they are either actual metal or covered in leather.

Let me put it this way. I had a 2.0 Sport saloon for a year and mistakenly sold it. I have definite sellers regret and I am actually looking for another.Ideally I'd like a C43 but realistically I will probably end up with a Sport Premium Plus.

Reliability wise, the only issue I had in that year/12,000 miles was the Nox sensor.

I ran a 2015 C220d from new to about 2 years old, then a 2015 C250d from 2 years to 3 years old for about 50k miles combined over 3 years.

Zero reliability issues - they were both bulletproof

Make sure the rear seats fold

Heated seats were pretty essential.

The 250 had a bit more poke, but not worth a massive premium over the 220.

AMG spec is nicer but even the basic ones are fairly well equipped.

Yup, good, mainstream vehicle and surprisingly economical although 50 mpg sounds like Driving Miss Daisy. The Sport suspension and bigger wheels can IMO give an excessively firm ride on UK's potholed roads. Depending how you intend to use the car don't be afraid of the lesser models. If you like your music beware the most basic sound system, but I wouldn't necessarily splash for the expensive Burmeister. Satnav can be pretty feeble and there are various different specifications. Merc build excellent auto transmissions.

Mercedes on-board electronics must be the least intuitive ever invented. But don't let that niggle stand in the way of what's fundamentally a good, mainstream car.

I have a similar car (C300 Sport), a little newer and in the same colour. Car is satisfactory. Wish I could say the same about the Main Dealer I bought it from. It won't be darkening their door again.

Love the car so far! Place from where I bought it from was spot on to be honest! What happened on your side? Thank you 🙏
