We first saw the large central portrait touchscreen, when the 2020 S class was introduced.
The same screen was subsequently used on the 2021 C class and the 2022 AMG SL.

My own opinion about the screen, was that it might be closer to the driver and therefore perhaps easier to reach, but rather large and dominant, particularly so in the SL, because the cabin is smaller than a saloon.

Last week Mercedes revealed the interior, of the yet to be unveiled 2024 E class.
Gone is the portrait screen, replaced by a much neater looking dashboard they are calling Superscreen.
I had thought that the S class always led the way, but perhaps not now that tech developments take place so rapidly.

I would be interested in your comments.

I test drove a Mercedes EQS and found the large screen (and all the touch screen controls and options) rather overwhelming whilst driving. Far too complicated. It seems as if it's been designed by nerds for nerds, rather than for users.

Thank you for your reply, raspy.

The proliferation of screens in cars, seems to be a trend in which we don't have much say.
I like to use tech, but only when it saves me time, or is of benefit to me in some way.

The forthcoming new E class, is not quite the same as the EQS. I think glass goes across the dash, but there are only two screens. One behind the steering wheel mainly for speedo and tachometer, and the second in the centre of the dashboard.
The one in the picture in front of the passenger appears to only fitted as an option.
Might be helpful for passengers who won't talk, or prefer to be in a cinema instead of looking at passing countryside. - smile

If I buy, it will be going from a Mercedes we have used for 20 year, without any screens. Probably will have to practice speaking to the car, to make anything work. - wink

I don't mind the screens so much, I've driven the new GLB, GLC, E-Class and C-class over the last year. What annoys me and would actually stop me buying a new model Merc is the steering wheel buttons - those horrid touch slider things instead of a normal rocker or arrow button.
