Now this may have been asked before but I want to convert the back seat of my clk so I can get three in if needed I don't need the is it legal posts ect just is it possible I know there is not a lot of space in there however I was thinking maybe a seat fron a c class w203 or w204 may fit with a little adjustment obviously I will remove the sub in the middle of the seats and I'm not above a bit of stitching if I need to thin the seats a bit although Idealy the shape will fit and I just need to mod brackets ect

Thanks Tom

A 2004 CLK should be a C209, so the equivalent C-Class would be a W203.

I've just measured the rear seats in my S203, they are 140cm (1.4m) across at the widest point. These are 60/40 split folding seats, so the bases flip forwards separately, the seat backs themselves then fold down although there is an outer upright part that stays in place on each side of the car.

No idea if the floorplan is the same in this area, and thus if the seats would actually fit I'm afraid.

A guy here claims to have had is W208 convertible professionally modified to carry a third rear passenger (complete with seat belt) https://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/index.php?threa...

I’ve had a 203 and currently a clk 209 version.
It’s entirely possible to get a custom made seat, but the standard c class will not be designed to fit.

Begs the question why of course, and you’d need to engineer provision for the middle seat belt.

Occasionally I need to seat a child in the middle I was going to use the seat belt mount points under the seat that the outer ones use

With a child seat in the middle thats not going to be a fun journey for your other 2 back seat passangers.
Are they leaving their legs/shoulders at home?

It’s got to be easier to change the car hasn’t it?
Even it it’s possible to adapt the existing car I’d imagine future buyers might no be so enthusiastic.

I had a 209 CLK when my eldest was born. Even with two seats getting a child seat in was difficult as there’s a lot less space in the back than you’d think. Can you even get 3 in the back, let alone with a child seat?

This is a bad idea.
There’s nothing physical stopping you making a custom seat that looks like it might accommodate as many passengers as you like. But it won’t be safe, it’ll void your insurance, and it’ll be uncomfortable for anyone who tries to use it.
Just buy a car with three rear seats.

As regards the idea of using child seat mounting points in a manner in which they weren’t designed to be used, this is an even worse idea as there is no way to know how the seat might behave in an accident as the modelling / testing performed during design substantiation will never have considered it. You’d be exposing the occupant of the seat to an unknown risk.

The steam-driven forum of PH does not understand iOS or Android smilies, you have to use the correct forum code from the top of the 'Reply' box.

Isn't the type approval for a CLK given for four passengers? I've had a 2006 for nearly 9 years now, and it carried 4 adults pretty easily up and down the country, but now that I have two kids, it's a bit of a squeeze getting 2 ISOFIX seats in. I wouldn't want to be squeezing a third in there.

These would seem to be the people to talk to: https://www.quickfitsbs.com/ but I doubt it is a DIY job, and your insurer may or may not accept it.

The rear seat in my 2003 CL203 is about 1.2m across the widest point. Of course, the CL203 is a hatchback and therefore the parcel shelf lifts with the hatch, whereas I imagine the parcel shelf in the W209 is fixed.

The base In mine is 1.1 metres across so it's close I think a small adjustment to one will make it fit thanks

Probably not what you're looking for, but if you wanted to get three children across the back of your CLK, you could get a Multimac triple car seat https://www.multimac.com/p/multimac_1000_3_seater which explicitly states it fits a CLK.
I guess you aren't looking to spend £1500 either, although they do also come up for sale secondhand.
