I am thinking about purchasing one of these but been looking at higher mileage examples. I've found one which has 100k on the clock and 1 previous owner (FSH) so wanted to reach out to owners to see if there are any common issues to lookout for and anything to keep in mind going forward with that kind of mileage ie costly repairs, parts that may need replacing etc

I'll be looking to keep the car for 1-2 years and will be doing 10-20k miles in that time.

Kind of 2 stage answer for you.

I have a 2018 C63S which has been very reliable for the 2 years I have owned it. It's only needed a coil pack and I had the aux belts changed before Christmas as it was getting squeaky when cold. Nothing it would share with the C220d has been an issue. It was a little rattly in the cabin when I got it but I went around the door, roof, bonnet and boot trims with some rubber care stuff and it's been quiet since.

We use Addison Lee a lot for trips to and from Heathrow / Gatwick and I've been in a lot of high milage E220d's and they are lovely cars. The last car I was in had nearly 200,000 miles on it and you really couldn't tell. The driver said they use the E220d / GLE as they are very reliable and cover big milage without issues.

If I needed a small, premium, economical estate I would buy a C220d or try and stretch to an E220d.

Thanks for the reply. Ideally I would like a E Class estate but just a bit out of budget. I would also prefer say a 320d Touring over the Merc but I've found one C220d that's really well priced and surprisingly only on for £500 more than WBAC valuation. 99% of cars I've valued when looking recently have all been a good £2-3k over the WBAC valuation. Not sure if that is a good metric to be using when trying to ascertain if something is priced well or not.

Not that up on BMW diesel engines but the police have been having lots of issues and have now stopped buying from BMW.

I had a M135i before the C63 and it ran perfectly with only servicing for the 5 years I owned it.

Pricing is difficult at the moment with a lot of cars costing significantly more than they did a couple of years ago but within reach of WBAC is not a bad way to see if its a good deal. If you are going to keep it for a few years it's less of an issue.

Spec is the challenge with these types of car. There are some really basic cars around which were used as cheap company cars, personally I would be looking for a Premium or Premium Plus to get the Mercedes side of the car.

No idea on current prices but I had a new C220d estate of that age as a company car. AMG trim with the Premium Plus pack. Would highly recommend that spec.

Some things really bugged me about it though - the seat wasn’t in line with the steering wheel so forced you to sit slightly skew whiff, and there was a hard plastic pieces in the thigh supports that dug into your legs after a while. Plus the sat nav would do the exit numbers on roundabouts wrong, it thought you’d be driving round them anti-clockwise.

Overall, pretty good car though. Enough room for a young family, great stereo, and frugal on motorway driving.

Good insight re BMW's proving troublesome as the last thing I want to do is have expensive repair bills to deal with which would then negate the savings I could be making going down this route.

Totally agree with spec as even when I'm looking I tend to look for the ones with some options so when I go to sell it should be easier vs a bog standard one which as you said there are a lot of.

The one I'm looking at is a Premium AMG Line with a Pan Roof so it has at least an extra lol but yeah I would look to keep it for about 2 years I think. I'm estimating a £2k loss per year which I think sounds reasonable but if the market does "crash" as people are expecting it to then it might be more. Only time will tell I guess.

Thanks for your insight. Totally agree it needs to be at least Premium Line AMG.

Yeah I saw that on a few reviews re the steering wheel as its slightly off centre and a bit to the left which as you say makes your driving position a bit weird. I'll only be using Apple CarPlay so not too bothered about the built in nav.

This is exactly what I'm after as I have 2 young kids so need the space that comes with that. I'm guessing it will be cheap to run and saw tax is only £30 for the year so should be cheap motoring for a few years as long as there are no costly repairs in that time.
