Hi folks

Got my defender resto up for sale now it’s all finished and a potential buyer has an e350 estate Sport they want to part ex. I wouldn’t normally be bothered but I had been thinking of selling my daily D4 and going back to an estate.

It has 80k miles and seemingly FDSH. I’m taking £8k off my minimum price on the defender so a decent deal I think. (Motorway offering £7k). Bit sketchy on what options it has but it has what I want/ need.

I’ve never been in the merc world before. Are they generally reliable with the v6 and 7g-tronic? This car seems to have air suspension which I’m guessing is great till it needs replacing. hehe Whatever it is it’s got to be better than the D4 for running costs!

Any opinions on what they are like to own/ drive much appreciated. I may just punt it straight on but just musing about options as you do.

I have a facelift 212 E350 estate. Mine has a few tasty options - in particular the multi contour massaging dynamic seats and the LED headlights. Great car for a motorway journey and surprisingly economical on a long journey. Is quite a bit more thirsty in urban driving.
The estates all came with rear air suspension and my experience is that these are not maintenance free, but also not too expensive for new airbags etc.
Had it 5 years and the only big bill has been for new NOx sensors.

Are you talking about petrol or diesel?

I have a 350 CGI petrol. It is a very nice car imho. The engine is very smooth.

If you can manage to find a petrol one I would highly recommend it. The diesel one seems to get rave reviews too. A fairly reliable engine too from what I gather. I rarely read about people having issues with them.. compared to the 4 pot diesels.

I'm on my 3rd E350D 212, and the biggest bill I've had is a NOX sensor which was about 500 quid to put right.

On my first I had an exhaust gas sensor need replacing at 90,000 miles. Other than that they've been utterly reliable.
The engine is bomb proof!
