Hi everyone, I hope this is in the correct section and doesn't break forum rules. I am posting as I am on the lookout for a Mercedes SLC most likely the 200 variant with the budget I have. I test drove an auto SLC 200 at the weekend and really enjoyed.
I am looking for a petrol engine with the leather seats and condition must be excellent with mileage as close or lower than 40k if possible.
Budget is £16,000.
I’ve been tracking a few on the usual selling sites, but wanted to see if any forum members have one to sell or know of one likely to come up for sale in the near future. Any general advice about this car is also welcomed smile
Thank you for reading

Nice cars - I've had two of that variant (R172s), a 2012 and a 2014, both the 250CDi although these days I'd go with your choice, the 200. I've had 5 SLKs and 2 SLs; can't beat them,

The only issue I had with them - ever - was the diamond cut alloys corroding. This is just an issue with diamond cut wheels in general.

If I was getting one again I'd want one without COMAND, it dates real fast and updates are £££££££s. Get one with the Becker modules that plug in the glovebox - the you get Tom Tom with updateable POIs (eg speed cameras) and I believe you can get a Carplay module now.

Thanks for your reply. It's good to know you have always had happy ownership with them. I will careful check out the alloys prior to purchase. May I ask what the COMMAND is? I've never owned one or that knowledgeable on them so any advice would be helpful. One I have seen doesn't have heated seats is that an retrofit down the line or would it be a specialist garage type job?
Thanks again

Comand is the most expensive nav/audio option and it gets a bit pointless when the car gets older.

I wouldn’t get one that hasn’t got heated seats or the airscarf; I thought the latter was a gimmick until I tried it.

Ahh I see I wasn't aware of that. That's good to know! I will put them on my priority list

I had one back in 2016, bought new. Had it for about a year, ended up selling it back to the dealer due to multiple faults and the poor dealer service. I'd had a 2013 MX5 before it and hoped the SLC would be a more civilised version of that. It wasn't.

Shame as I'd always wanted a Mercedes ever since my dad had a 500SEL when we lived in Saudi when I was a kid, but wouldn't touch the brand now I'm afraid.

Whereas I’ve had quite a few Mercedes including R170, R171 x 2,R172 x2 and a pair of R230s.

Apart from the first R230 (which was dreadful - 2002 dark days of Merc) all the others including the current SL and SLK have been well nigh perfect.

There’s also C class coupe, E class coupe x 2 and E class estate to add to that list.

Whereas the car prior to my changing to Merc was a Toyota MR2 roadster; 3 new batteries, new alternator, new gearbox and FOUR sets of wheels!

No way I’d consider an MX5 to be in the same market sector as an SLK/SLC either.

That sounds a nightmare! A lot of friends have suggested the MX-5 I just feel the SLC is a classier looking car

That's good to hear Dogstar My father had a couple of Mercedes back in the day and had a similar experience to you, they never caused him any trouble at all so it's comforting to know you've had the same experience. I also feel it will hold its value slightly better than the MX-5 over a few years of ownership but I could be wrong
