New car advice please (AMG related)...
Discussion
Feel it is time to get myself into an AMG. Always been a MB fan, but not been an AMG owner.
Really confilicted at the moment, between C / E and body style. I think saloon I have kind of ruled out, figure either go for what is probably the purer driving experience C coupe 2 wheel drive or go big and bonkers with an E estate 4 Matic and use it everyday for kids and all. Going with the coupe will limit some usage due to size (if a day out with the kids, we will probably use our other car). I work in London so once a week the commute is a slow 20 miles, not sure how well suited the E will be to this, but I guess it is usually only once a week so possibly do-able. Other usage cases will be longer travelling day trips, up to two hours each way of driving; probably either car can do that.
Two have come across my search:
The coupe looks like it is a base spec and the night package may be aftermarket as cannot see it on the VIN check; it is however is the facelift model which I would want if I went for the C. The E estate is very highly specced, just slightly concerned about the mileage; it is not the facelift which came in 2021, however it has the things I would want such as Apple Play and also the very nice to haves, such as Driving Assistance, pan roof, night package, upgraded stereo, etc. etc. Yet to speak to dealers to check history, but as they are approved used, I would hope that is all in order.
Dare I mention depreciation!? I think they will both lose money, but I don't ideally want to buy a car that will lose £25k in two years, if either is more prone to doing that (of coruse we don't know) then sensible guesses welcomed!
Keen to hear any thoughts / advice / tips...

One limitation with AMG Coupe's is that they are only 4 seats, whereas the estate you show is 5 if that makes a difference to your family arrangements.
AMG Wagon's are just seriously cool
AMG's will lose money in the current environment but are surprisingly cheap to service (given engine and performance levels) and kept on a dealer plan you also get the MB Mobilo European wide breakdown cover so no need for AA/RAC
Drive both and choose one as once you've driven one at full chat you'll just have to have one

I have a 2018 C63S coupe as a second car.
The first question is will the C coupe will limit your opportunity to use the car?
Will the kids be happy climbing in and out of the back? Its a little cramped back there, when you are in its not to bad but the space to get in and out is limited. The boot is an odd shape it's big but not very tall some things which you think will fit, wont. Will you end up leaving it at home as its not practical enough?
It's a handful in the wet / ice / snow, Its fun but powerful RWD cars with fat tyres are terrible when the weather is bad.
If you are looking at the C class the coupe is the one to go for as it has the wider stiffer body shell, softer suspension, wider tyres etc etc. Personally I would go for a pre facelift car, the 2019 on cars have a particulate filter in the exhaust which makes them quieter. The facelift cars have a bigger central screen, digital cockpit and generally better tech if that's your thing. I think the coupes all come with the sports exhaust but make sure it does as it's the most important option.
I went for the 'S' they are more expensive but seem to be the more sought after car and hold the premium over the non S cars. The S came with the e diff, adjustable engine mounts, bigger brakes, more power and the important bucket seats.
Other than this I went with a fairly basic car, I plan to keep mine for a while and didn't want to have any issues with things like lane keep assist or radar cruise which I probably wouldn't use. Premium pack gives you the panoramic roof and upgraded stereo which are good options. Look out for the 19/20 inch wheel option which is popular.
It's an epic car, makes one of the best noises, is very happy pootling around at 30mph in town and will run 180mph on the autobahn just as happily!!
The E63 is a go anywhere do anything car, a true one car garage if you can live with the running costs.
Low 30mpg on an easy motorway run, single digits if you are having fun. 10,000 mile / 12 month service intervals. 15,000 to 20,000 miles for a £1,200 set of tyres. These not cheap cars to run if you put big miles on them. My C63S has been very reliable I changed a £250 coil pack and I had the aux belts changed as they were getting squeaky when cold which cost £350, not bad for 2 years in a high performance car.
It's worth more now than when I bought it 2 years ago and with the new C63 being a 4 cylinder and saloon / estate only it might hold its value????

Expect that you know that the replacement E-class model is expected next year.
The AMG version will presumably be some time after the mainstream models.
Hopefully the 3 litre inline six will continue to be offered.
I don't have confidence in a 2 litre four cylinder, producing hundreds of bhp, by using turbochargers.
Presumably it must work for quite a long time, but to me, the physics just seem stretched.
Edit - I read New in your topic title, but now realise you probably mean new to you.

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies. Yes I mean new to me, the linked cars were those I was considering.
Very interesting to read all your thoughts. I very nearly placed a deposit on the E Class. However, watching some reviews on YT and a lot of comments say the E 63 is very fidgety on British roads. My commute into London needs comfort and I am guessing the comfort mode will just not be comfortable enough...new plan now, get an E Class Diesel for the commute and then maybe a £20k fun car!
Rather boring for the commute in the E Class, but maybe sensible and allows piling on the miles without worrying.

Very nice, do you know the car?https://www.gkirby.com/used/cars/mercedes-benz/c-c...
I think I need to get the commute car tied up first, then man maths will present itself for sure!

I don't know the car, although someone on the MB Forums might I do though know Grant and Jamie who sold me my GTR and took my C63 507 Coupe in PX at an excellent price. They do not stock anything that is not 100% and I found them to be excellent, straight people to deal with.
Best of luck with your search
