Car went in for a recall for the airbag the other week.
While it was there Mercedes completed the Emissions recall out of the goodness of their heart.

Car now seems louder on tickover, (imagination?) and performance it feels like it is missing half the previous torque levels.
Is a big old lump at the best of times, but previously it pulled well from low down never hunted on gears and was ideal for slumping along on motorways up any hill or loaded to the ceiling with junk or bikes or Ikea goodness.
Fuel economy has also taken a hit, round town is now not seeing 30+ where before I was getting mid 30's without trying and more on motorway long runs.

Been back into Mercedes to ask for a swap back to the previous map and nope, can't do that.

Anyone had this emissions remap and then gone with something like Superchips or others for a performance or economy map instead?

I am planning to swap to something else in the new year so I might just live with it, but curious on what options there are and other peoples experience.

Goodness of their heart.... lol

You're not alone, plenty of moans across the various forums and FB groups i'm a member of with people reporting similar.

I plan never to get it done and won't take my car (with the same engine as yours) to a MB dealer until I can find a way to physically stop them from updating the software as a verbal request and even written request does not work - they just update it regardless.

Your best bet, as you have already mentioned is to get it re-mapped by a tuner. The 350 diesel engine is a torque monster, a remap will really bring the car to life.

MSL in Birmingham or GAD tuning based down in Essex (I think, with a outlet in the Northeast) are the go to for most.

Mine is already mapped, and i'll be dammed if i'm paying another £400+ to get mine mapped again after some Mercedes tech wipes it!

I resisted having my E350 done but when the NOx sensors failed the garage said they could not fit the updated NOx sensors without the software update.

My car was noticeably different in how it drove when I picked it up, especially noticeable was a loss of performance and a tendency to run a gear lower. By chance the next week I had a 400 mile return journey. Fuel consumption in that journey was worse than before the update.

After the journey the car seemed to be back to normal and it now changes into 7th gear at speeds as low as 55mph (same as before the software update) and fuel consumption has risen back to where it was before.

It was the same with my brother's diesel Audi.

For what it's worth, if I unplug the ECU on a car I have that is not German, then plug it back in, the ECU re-learns as I drive it and gets back to running properly after a shortish while. Could this be what is happening?
