R230 350 potential steering issue

After some advice please. Y 55 plate SL350 has developed a strange whining sound which seems to be steering related as it gets louder the more the steering input. Sounds like maybe a belt is lose or something? The whine matches engine revs too.

Sorry I can’t be more specific as I’m not mechanically minded!

Have you checked the power steering fluid levels? I had similar with my E class and had a leak and was losing fluid.

In case it’s the pump:

The good news about this is that, because SL350s don’t typically have ABC, replacing the PAS pump is way cheaper than on the other models as the pump doubles as part of that system. The bad news is that you need to use ABC hydraulic fluid in the system if you do need to change it.
