My E400D Coupe warranty runs out this month.
Car is currently with Merc for a power steering failure.
It’s this fail which is making me wonder whether I should take the extended warranty as it’s not something I would normally do. The thought of a several grand bill is a bit worrying should something similarl happen in the future.
Or do I stick the money in a “ fix the car when it breaks “ account ?

Yay or nay for taking the extension?

I extended the warranty on my E class for a year and didn’t claim. Decided to save the money in subsequent years. Had it for 5 years and the repair costs in the past 5 years have been a lot less then what I would have paid for a warranty.

I extended mine on a C350e and I was glad I did.

There was always a bit of an argument about what was covered but it usually worked out.
e.g. Airmatic failure due to water ingress into wiring harness which then burnt out the compressor.
They wouldn't cover the wiring harness (£100) but would cover the compressor (£1,000).

Or the head gasket failure which they denied all knowledge of, but kept the car for five days and it came back working fine. I suspect without the warranty I'd have been paying out.

Not sure if you knew, but if you keep the main dealer service history intact it automatically covers you for Mobilo assistance.

Just an update. It need some control unit recoded apparently ??
I decided not to renew the warranty as the girl in the dealership was a bit vague about the extent of the cover.
The car has been and will be Merc serviced for the next few years so should the worst happen I’d hope for some loyalty contribution either from Merc or dealer.

I passed on the warranty this year also even though the amount asked wasn't too bad. Don't forget that your car has been serviced with Merc you have full breakdown cover for the year.
