Mercedes panoramic sunroof fixed panel deterioration
Discussion
I just clicked in Google to see if other cars have the same issue and, guess what, failure of the surface treatment is a common problem among cars parked outside in the sun. This link has better photos than I've been able to take.

Has anyone in UK actually found a decent fix? A small area of vinyl wrap seems tempting as a DIY solution but I can't help thinking the front edge would be vulnerable to peeling due to air flow at the top of the windscreen. Painting sounds like it would need a professional job.
Suggestions please!

Is this a piano black plastic trim piece?
If so then it’s the same as the plastic panels either side of the rear screen on SL vario roofs. I had my R230 ones painted for <£100 a few years back, and my R231’s were simply replaced (much cheaper parts for the 231)
I’d probably recommend a professional paints it a nice shiny black. A wrap might be an option but I found that I got better service from a bodyshop than the “wraps’n’tints” people local to me at the time.
