Looking to buy a Merc from an offical dealer and found the car and struck a deal.

He then mentions the car was first registered in France but is a full UK spec car and is not an issue.

What are peoples view on this? Is it normal or will it effect the price

Thanks in advance

Hard to say, if it is a full UK spec. Perhaps you could pretend you already had this car and phone some other dealers to see what they would offer for it, and you could ask if the fact it is an import makes a difference.

Two tips here

1. Get the VIN number and phone Mercedes UK who should be able to confirm date of build, which market it was built for and specification.

2. If an EU spec/supplied car it may have a Certificate of Conformity - normally issued to rhd imports from the EU. It just certifies that the vehicle is built to EU spec and not for Malaysian or other RHD markets. - This may be required for your insurance company.

If it was first registered in France, then surely it's 'an import' and dealers always seem to devalue imported cars, or sometimes won't take them in p/x at all?
I've seen comments about BMW's where (according to BMW's 'rules') the dealer is required to point out that a car is an import, and customers have been given their money back when this wasn't adhered to (so being 'an import' must be a significant issue).
