E400 V6, 3.0 vs 3.5

Can anyone explain the difference between the models which used the 3.0 and 3.5l V6 engines in the E400? Came across these earlier while looking for something with a bit of poke, circa 2014-2016 era. As far as I can tell they both have 7 speed auto boxes, but are they RWD or AWD? It appears the later model was AWD, but not sure about this model.
Also, any reason not to buy one? Anything big and scary which will make your wallet bleed?
