Rightly or wrongly I'm refurbishing my wife's 1998 SLK230 with genuine Mercedes parts. Currently I'm looking at the suspension and a week or so ago I ordered new springs, shock absorbers, bushes and fitting kits all round. The parts lads at MB near me are good and let me order without paying up front. Nothing happened so I called just now. They're still making up the order. They have everything except three of the shock absorbers. They're waiting for both rears and one front and have sent a hurry up to Germany.

If you're going to do it, do it soon.

If you're wondering about me spending more on the car than it's worth, she's had the car for twenty years and still loves it.

I don't have experience of the SLK, but on my CLK the suspension components are made by Sachs, and the Mercedes supplied parts are identical save for a paper parts label on the shock absorbers.

The arms are made by Lemforder and are the same part with MB star logo (visibily) ground off.

Sachs and Lemforder parts are readily available.
