Hi all,

A crow has decided to kindly peck the crap out of my partners a class window and ripped some sort of rubber trim out all the way round (front and rear doors).

Question is, what part is it and is it the part that if not replaced asap will cause me any issues? Any idea on cost? Also worried I’ll get it sorted and the little runts will do it again!

Any info much appreciated

Left is the damaged rubber now gone, right is how it should look

It's a weird thing with crows and car rubber... I've heard of them doing the same with wiper blades.

It's called a weather strip, I've also seen it called weather seal.

Not the end of the world in that state, the doors are designed assuming some water will get past it. They just clip in usually but are a faff sometimes. I'd put it on the "things to do before autumn" list.

Suggest you find the VIN and look on one of the free electronic parts catalogues (EPCs) to find the correct part number. For something like this there's usually only a couple of options but Mercedes are buggers for having 20 variants of a part depending on what other options are selected.

Probably having a fight with it's own reflection in the car window and quite likely to do it again if the same car is parked in the same spot.

Weatherstrip or sometimes known as a scraper moulding.

Cheers for the responses. I'll have a look to get hold of them. It's also now done one of the side rubber seals on the rear window. Seems to be almost daily in the morning, thankfully has left my car a few metres away alone so far. I've purchase one of those window type car covers in the hope it will break the pattern!

If it drives them towards my car instead then I won't be best pleased!

If you have anywhere suitable nearby try hanging a couple of old CDs on some string so they rotate and swing around near the car(s), crows dont like reflective shiny stuff that moves. Eventually the crows move on and you can remove the CDs.
