Just wondering if anyone had experience of re-mapping any normally aspirated Merc V8 engines and if it's worth it?

I have re-mapped at least two turbo diesels and the results were great, I had a re-mapped turbo petrol and again that was great too.

The car in question is a CL500, so it's not slow anyway, about 380bhp. It seems re-maps on a much larger normally aspirated engine offer some pretty solid gains. Around 20bhp and 30lbs-ft seems pretty decent, I'd anticipate better throttle response too.

Has anyone mapped an N/A V8?

I would not bother to be honest

I looked at doing a 3.0 bmw and the conclusion was that it was not worth it

Not much to be gained?

I certainly wouldn't entertain it on a small engine but seems the big V8s could offer a decent gain.

The M156 power plant can map very well, mainly due to it being restricted from the factory depending on application.

Its was restricted for use in the W204 C63 - 450bhp
Unrestricted in the E63 it was over 500bhp.

Pretty simple for tuners to remove the restriction and find a little extra with many mapping to 520 bhp without much issue

I have heard that. I have a CLS63 and was aware it was basically restricted in the C63s. Also considering that engine was used in the SLS which I think had 600bhp (albeit with some tweaks) it's clearly capable.

I'm wondering more about the 5.5 in my Cl. smile

I am very happy with the map put in my SLK55. It was a lot pokier when I drove it away from the tuner. It went from 354 to 390, with bigger gains in torque.
