Recently bought a 2016 C350e plug-in hybrid as the best of both worlds - daily commute is 4 miles each way, so the hybrid is ideal for me. Love the car, but I'm confused about the parking sensors - they don't beep! The car has a reversing camera, and sensors all round both bumpers. When you put it in reverse, the P> symbol comes on in the dash, and if you press the P> Off button to the right of the dash, it goes off again. So far so good. But no beep. If you reverse towards something, a line appears on the camera screen to indicate which quarter of the car is about to get crunched, but it never goes red, and no beep.

A bit of Googling suggests that they won't beep unless you have Parktronic, but more Googling suggests all European / UK cars have it as standard.

On the roof lining, just back from the rear seat, is a black module about 5 inches in length. On a previous BMW this would light up colours to show you distance in the rear view mirror - on the Merc, this does nothing.

It's probably not the end of the world if it doesn't beep, but I'd like to know if it should. Car is still under warranty (third party, bought it used) so should be covered.

Yes it's broken. I have a 2015 C350e and it beeps front and rear regarding sensors plus the module near the rear windscreen lights up different colours as you get closer when reversing.

Bugger.

Thanks Raspy, I even called the Mercedes dealer and they weren't sure. Back it goes.

Try adjusting the volume with the stereo volume wheel whilst the sensors are active. They may just be turned down.
