Service dilemma
Discussion
My 2015 E350 Bluetec will be due its annual service soon so I have been in touch with Merc Exeter and have been quoted £513 for the B service which doesn't do much. The car has a full Merc history and right now is under Merc warranty so I,m thinking do I go ahead with them or try an independent if there is a good one in the southwest, thinking!!!thoughts? tia.
It’s up to you really.
How long do you intend to keep the car? If you’re going to change it in the next year or so, I’d say stick with the dealer servicing. If you want to keep for a few more years, my usual advice would be to ditch the incompetent box-swapping thieves and use a well regarded independent.

Nothing to add other than to say this is what I would do.How long do you intend to keep the car? If you’re going to change it in the next year or so, I’d say stick with the dealer servicing. Actually, this is what I am doing. I've been most impressed with the Specialists so far. As long as you find a good one.
At 7-years old, I think I'd be looking for a decent indie (unless warranty stipulates franchised dealer).
I've heard good reports on this one, but it might be a bit far for you if you're Exeter-based:

I can't remember the chap's name but he was an AMG-tech at the local cealer until approx 2-years ago, prior tosetting up on his own. There used to be an indie (and may still be) at Exeter but can't recall any details now.

Yet to try them but I have heard good things about Avantgarde up in Weston Super Mare (they are on the same site as Alfaholics which is another draw for me.
I have also used Merc Exeter but not sure that I will continue to use them on my 9yr old but it has been dealer serviced up to this point.

I have extended warranty from MB and the terms state that servicing has to be done by a MB dealer. If you take it an independent, you won't be meeting the terms of the warranty. cayman-black said:
Tarquin thankyou they are no further from me so i will check them out.
raspy, thanks i did not know this, my warranty finishes after the service any way so perhaps this year i will take to merc then i will try Tarquins recommendation.
There’s a decent independent around the corner from Exeter Merc on Marsh Barton. I’ve used them for oil and filter but won’t for a main service, that said, Merc Exeter have a poor reputation but then so many main dealers do these days. raspy, thanks i did not know this, my warranty finishes after the service any way so perhaps this year i will take to merc then i will try Tarquins recommendation.
I wouldn't even consider a main dealer service at this age. I'm not sure at what age/mileage your should have a transmission service, others on here may know better than me but this is a critical service often missed by dealers but is likely to make a difference to gearbox life and possibly quality of gear change.

Yes i agree in some ways. Mine has full Merc history including having had the gearbox oil changed so its history is spot on .I will put up with Merc Exeter this year and then have a think.

For new car warranties, EU block exemption means manufacturers cannot refuse warranty claims for vehicles serviced elsewhere as long as genuine parts are used.
