Just looking for some advice on the above, basically i am about to undergo quite a drastic job change meaning my commute will go from 1440 miles a month to 1440 a year biggrin

Because of this i am now stuck in the classifieds seeing what disgusting on fuel cars i could swap the 118D for!

I am a big BMW fanboy but dailying something like an M3/M5 would leave me constantly worried about killing the thing. My question is does anyone have any experience of running the W204 C63 as a daily for short journeys and how has your experience been? Dont get me wrong ill be more than happy to take it for a blast once a week but just wanted to know if this sort of car would just suffer with this short of a commute biggrin

Cheers!

How short is the commute? My W204 6.2 takes 10-15 minutes to warm the engine oil sufficiently.

Oh, what am I thinking? JFDI!

Hahaha there is the big JFDI in me for this! My commute is tiny 8 mins in the car and like 2.8 miles

Get it bought, for the weekends. And an eBike for the commute.

I drive mine around 1100 miles a year but avoid short trips below eight to ten miles as the engine takes time to properly warm up. Buy one but not for the commute, but for proper road trips.

If the 118 doesn’t owe you much, keep it for the commute, not forgetting to clear the DPF occasionally and treat yourself to a weekend Beemer/V8 toy. Or just a 2 litre turbo petrol that warms up more quickly and doesn’t mind short journeys. Honda Vtec engines warm up fast.

15 - 20 mins for it to warm up properly, half in the heat of summer, it feels rough until it warms up so seems pointless.

The 118d literally owes me nothing so will make do as a daily, id ideally like to only have to insure 2 cars but im looking at getting a tow car aswell smile

That’s the great thing about an Ebike. Turn up the power and you won’t sweat. Won’t be much good in the rain though.

if it was me i'd be getting a huge wafty barge. You'll never be able to warm the C63 up enough to rag it, so it will just be a car with all the downsides of a barge but none of the upsides. Obviously do what you want. I have a W205 smile
