Replace NTG 2.5 with new head unit?
Discussion
Having some issues with my command head unit on W164 ML. Turns on ok and nav works but no sound, I can’t activate logic 7 and it says media interface not available.
I’m looking at the possibility of replacing it with something else. I’m anticipating this isn’t possible for the following reasons:
The system is a fibre optic system with a HK surround amp, a tv tuner, rear seat screens and rear seat DVD player.
If anyone can assist I’d be grateful.
Thanks

You can get a connects2 interface that’ll give you the ability to connect to the gateway and amp and give you steering wheel control for a third party head unit. I’m doing similar tomorrow in the OHs “new” SLK with NTG1. The audio andcnav displays in your cluster display no longer work, but that’s sctually not a big issue.
I did try and replace the NTG2.5 in my SL and gave up as it means losing various other features.

Many thanks- I’d been looking at those but, like you say, il lose some functionality.
I could cope with no surround sound and having to set the clock by pulling the fuse but wouldn’t want to lose the tv/dvd for the rear screens and I don’t know if they depend on the head unit or not as there is a separate Dvd unit in the rear.

Well some good news.
I’ve removed the Command head unit and I can still get TV and DVD on the rear screens.
No visible fault on the command unit - will have to get it tested.
You could always call Comand Online in Surry. They know all the ins and outs. Well known in MB forums.I’ve removed the Command head unit and I can still get TV and DVD on the rear screens.
