What’s the difference between an A35 and a CLA 35? I’m confused

Body shape, one is a hatchback and one is a saloon?

Edit. I see you mention A35 saloon in the title.

I suspect very little difference between A35 saloon and CLA 35, they are probably just niche filling model names so Mercedes can say they sell something in that segment.

First of all I have to admit to being biased here because I own a CLA 35.
When the A class saloon was announced in early 2019 i think it was I preferred it over the A Class hatchback, but then very soon afterwards (possibly a week or 2) the new CLA was announced and I immediately thought it looked more stylish than the A Class saloon.
I went on to buy a CLA 250 Premium Plus in June 2020, then a CLA 35 Premium in November 2021.
The differences are many and vary from subtle to significant. When viewed head on it is very difficult to tell the 2 cars apart (unless you spot the bonnet bulges of the CLA), but from all other angles it is very easy to tell the difference.
The CLA is more expensive but its standard spec is higher so this makes up for some of the additional cost.
The CLA is simply the nicer looking car.
