I am currently selling my E350 and had an enquiry from a chap asking about the service history. The history is full but with cars these days you don't have a service book as it is all electronic. I assume Mercedes hold this on the MB system and can share the full history with the owner and or the interested party?

Don't sell many cars so it is an odd thing that came up today and how best to share the detail.

It will only be on MB's system if the car was serviced at an MB main dealer or an approved service garage with access to their system; assuming they actually update the system. Dealers will often provide a print out if proof of ownership is provided.

OK thanks. I suppose then a buyer has to take the owner's word for it in the interim?

Going forward I'd suggest you make up a paper file of your car's service history. Then it's dead easy to show any future buyer exactly where the car's been, whether in the official network or not. My cars always sell really easily with that sort of record.

It's not clear from your post how long you've had the car or whether you have had it serviced by MB. In addition to updating the electronic system, customers are given a receipt and printout of the items undertaken when serviced, so, although no service book, there should be, or have been, a paperwork trail (unfortunately, a lot of garages now seem to throw this away, incorrectly citing GDPR).

If you input your vehicles details into the attached link, that should show the recorded mileage at the last time it was recorded on MB's database

However, there are some caveats: it is only as accurate as the data input (on one of mine the last service isn't on their system, despite me having the paperwork and when I queried it I was advised that it was showing on the garage's end of the system but I still couldn't see it). Also, if a car has had one or more personal no. plates, it can sometimes cause issues - it shouldn't, and the VIN should resolve it, but the system isn't foolproof! (don't ask how I know this wink )

Also, not all Mercedes-Benz cars have an electronic service record...

True, but introduced in 2008 and by 2010 all cars were using it.

I keep the invoices - the online systems (all the marques we have, including Mercedes) are often inaccurate particularly with regard to things like brake fluid and ATF changes.

Thanks for the link, that is helpful. I have a 2009 SLK myself and when I bought it I was able to access Mercedes Me to generate a service record. The link you provided shows it was correctly last serviced at an official Mercedes dealership in 2018. It has had 2 more at specialists since who updated the system and I have a print-out from 2020 but these are not shown.

Mercedes have 'updated' rolleyes their data protection so that an oik like me can't now generate a service record. You have to be granted access. frown

I have downloaded the Adaptor app (only recently got a phone with up to date software to enable a download) and need to get an adaptor from a dealer apparently to install the Mercedes ME Adaptor. This may help scratchchin

I have a full Mercedes-Benz service history and that weblink doesn't even recognise my registration number.

If I were a potential buyer, I would not just take the owner's word - I'd want to see proof!

You should be able to get a print out of the digital service history from a dealer with proof of ownership. One of the first things to do before putting the car up for sale.

You can ring Mercedes up and they will send you a list of service info if need be. WBAC often ask for some evidence and told me to do that when I put a car through them.
