C63 or c63s cab
Discussion
Dear PH ers, I want a quick cabriolet that I won’t worry too much about where I park and will be used for weekends away, driving to car meets, getting shopping etc etc (3rd car so will be garaged and not used on salted roads ).
I’ve always fancied a c63 cab, nice size, nice looking and go and sound great.
I’m not an aggressive / sporty driver but I miss the bursts of acceleration I used to get from my old cars. ( Ferrari California and California T).
I don’t think I need a c63s. Are the differences only noticeable when on the track ? Would a c63 be more comfy ? I’ll just use it to cruise around in the spring summer, go for weekends away but when the road is quiet I would floor it to feel the acceleration.
Anyone tried / owned both ? I’ve heard the c63 is actually quicker than the c63s up to 60 anyway.
The one I’m keen on is 2017 with 43k miles - for £43k / is this too high mileage ? I’m assuming that as a merc it is fine. I dont Want to have the worry of very expensive engine trouble and anxiety when I park it in the city centre like I used to with more expensive cars and I reckon the c63 will tick all the boxes - am I on the right track ?
Thanks In advance - Dan in Swansea

I think the Cab will be ideal from what you describe.
It's not a sporty car. I had one to test over a weekend last year and it felt very heavy (its nearly 2 tons) with scuttle shake when pushed hard on the turn in.
However it was awesome, just a grin machine as the engine dominates the car. It only needs 1 gear, and that was 4th!
The E53 cab maybe worth considering as well.

I have a 2018 C63S Coupe with the big glass sunroof (premium pack). Get a pre face lift (late 2018) car for the better noise, post facelift for tech.
It makes a lovely noise and I usually drive with the roof tilted open to listen to the exhaust. The S has a few upgrades, bigger brakes, electronic diff, variable engine mounts to make the drive better / quicker and in the coupe you can really feel it everything tighten up in sport/race mode as the body shell is stiff, not sure about the convertible.
The S is only 0.1 seconds faster to 60 than the C63, the S top speed is limited to 186mph rather than 155mph but when are you going to use that. I think on the road there is very little difference on the track the S is probably a better drive.
The only other big difference are the sports bucket seats which are standard on the S and an option on the non S, personally I like them and they add to the 'specialness' of the interior but some people say they are uncomfortable over longer drives. The bucket seats don't have the air scarf on the convertible as that only came in 2019.
For me the C63 is ace, the C63 will give you 99% of the S and crucially 100% of the noise.
I chose the C63 over a 911/Vantage as its a car that's not subtle but unless you know what you are looking at its just a Mercedes whereas the 911/Vantage are Porches and Astons which give a different vibe. I have left it in various hotel and business park car parks and its always there when I get back and it hasn't been vandalised.

Thanks Lee - that’s another tick as I have a bad back and don’t want sports bucket seats - do they do a comfort seat option in the c63 ? Is it quite comfy on a long run - I’m 6’3
The standard seats in the C63 are I think the comfort seats but don't quote me on that. I am 6'5" and 15 stone so a fairly big frame and drive to our head office once a month which is 250+ miles from home, Kent to Leeds and I find it perfectly comfortable with the sports bucket seats. Its nice as you can put the car in comfort and just like driving any other C class coupe but with a lovely burble from the exhaust. Then switch to Sport + or race and the thing just tightens up and has the acceleration to embarrass most sports cars and some supercars.
Went to try one out today - not the best road conditions for it so just cruised around for 20 mins - it is bloody fast ! Exhaust sound is addictive - comfy seat and this one has loads of options - carbon inside and out - heatscarf etc etc
Going to have a think over the weekend - lovely blue paint - black alloys

We bought the C63 cab 19 plate face lift model in may last year from our local merc dealer with comfort “standard” seats, head scarf and 18 inch “aero optimised” wheels that I didn’t really like in the pictures but really suit it in the flesh and look better than the black 19/20 inch IMO and add to the comfort with another inch of sidewall rubber and really love it. You get the electric diff same as S in face lift models and 9 speed box. I personally don’t think the 10k plus premium for S model is worth it. Like poster said before is it really worth 10k for 1% more car? Are you going to track it every weekend and drive everywhere in race mode….don’t think so. It’s still a beast to tame and you have to be careful pulling out of t junctions/roundabout’s etc cos it can be extremely tail happy which combined with the noise can really make you giggle. Set it in comfort with dynamic engine and exhaust in individual mode with top down in summer and away you go. Get one you won’t regret it
