Hi all,

I have just purchased a 2010 c350 cdi, 73k on the clock, fmbh. I just can’t seem to get more than 25 mpg around town, is this what I should be getting. I have just filled the tank and done 140 miles and it’s at half way, that means 250-280 miles on a full tank, which is less than mine 2002 bmw 530d m sport auto. Surely that can’t be right ? Look forward to hearing from you guys.

Sounds a bit lower than my 2014 E350 achieves around town, but I am guessing not by much.
I find mine really economical on a motorway journey but economy really drops in city driving.

It weights nearly two tonnes and it has a slushbox.

Any stop start is by far the worst way to use a diesel.

Add all those factors together and you get 25mpg.

My Vito has the same engine and gets about the same on shortish journeys. Up to about 35mpg on a long run.

If it's literally accelerate / brake / stop and repeat then it'll be hopeless.

Getting these cars moving takes a lot of effort so try and avoid coming to a stop, and and anticipate lights etc so you can get off the gas and slow without braking. But at the same time not to ridiculous lengths - you don't want to be rear-ending people!

Other thing is these engines take a lot of warming up - the water temp might show normal after a few miles / maybe 15-20 mins running but you're into the teens of miles and maybe 45 mins around town before the oil is properly hot.

That said, my older C270CDi is low 30's for local use and we're semi-rural. It needs to get a motorway and sit at 70ish for a while before it'll head up te high 40's.

A knackered thermostat on these affects economy.

I used to get early 30's round town and mid 40's on a run in my 2013 E350.

Thank you all guys for your feedback. Good to learn. Also wanted to ask if changing the fuel filter could make a difference.

We get 35 to 40 from ours, where we live is semi rural, hardly any traffic lights.

On longer journeys its more like 45 to 50, ours has done about 90,000 miles.

Yeh I’ll be happy with that. Mine on a motorway run is doing about 32. Not sure, if there’s is anything else worth checking

32 on a motorway seems low. I have that engine in an E class estate and get 40+ on the motorway at speeds which make me keep an eye out for police.

I've had a 2011 E350 CDI for about 3 months ... I've been getting 32mpg combined (but mainly motorway work). On a long 70mph run it'll crack 36mpg just.

I'm a bit disappointed in it after my last E91 330d. Do those figures sound about right or a bit low?

I'm going to change the thermostats (but they're on back order at Merc) which I'm hoping will improve things.

Also is it possible to install reverse camera in the car ? Any had it done. Is CarPlay an option on car if this age or is too old ?
