I had one of these in my old SL500 R230; if your phone has the cradle for the phone in the centre armrest then you can do one of two things....

- buy one of the old fashioned Nokia phones that fit in there and stick a PAYG SIM in it
- get a Viseeo bluetooth "puck" that is the same form factor as the phone that plugs into the phone cradle and gives you bluetooth streaming.

Not cheap. I had one in mine and simply eBayed it when the car thankfully went.

I'd suggest having a word with Viseeo or comandonline.co.uk

I've just been through similar with a 2010 SL350 I have just bought; it's the facelifted model and has the APS 2.5 Comand system which has bluetooth phone but not bluetooth streaming. I initially tried to replace the head unit with a Sony XAV3005DB carplay unit like that I put in Mrs DSs SLK but that wasn't going to fly - all the fibre optic stuff plus general loss of some car features put me off.

I then discovered that the NTG2.5 has a multimedia socket in the centre console, so I got the OE cable, an apple lightning adapter and I've got all the Waze, Spotify etc etc with tracknames and steering wheel control. I'm happy enough with that, and also retained the correct "look".

In my 1993 SL500 I just used a Jabra speaker on the sunvisor, worked well and quite cheap.

I have used a viseeo mb2000 in my 56 plate a class since I bought it in 2007.
If your sl500 can take the mb2000 then I also have a second one that I bought at the time but never used.

Up till recently I used the spare old Nokia phone (6110) I think and all calls were redirected to it whilst in the car. Mine had the receiver in the armrest so it was the easiest and cheapest option.

The Vissio was way to expensive for just the odd phone call.

Eventually my HU started playing up so I replaced it with a Kenwood which does all manner of blue tooth stuff. Bloody expensive though but it does bring the car into the 21st century.
