I think one of these may be the next family wagon but I'm new to the Mercedes Benz world, having never owned one.

I'm after a late 2014/2015 face lift car, that hasn't been to the moon and back.

What do I need to look out for? Has anyone on here got one and if so, what do you think? What's the desirable spec options etc?

This looks like a good one - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202103019...

Cheers.

I bought my '14 plate 350 CLS Shooting Brake (AMG Sport) at the start of July with 62k miles from a non franchised dealer having started off looking at BMW 520d M Sport Tourers but had found out about the engine issues they had. Mine has full MBZ/specialist SH and 2 owners. Mine was one of the last of the pre-facelift cars so I paid £15k as I couldn't justify the extra £s on a face-lift model, & the lower front bumper might have been an issue with my use of the car (I go down along of bumpy country roads)!

The cars should (I think) be serviced annually and I see the recent service and gearbox oil service in the ad which is a good sign with a clear MOT history (checked online). The cars have lots of tech & whilst I could have saved £1000 buying privately, I'm not prepared to roll the dice on a car of that value/complexity and hence went with a dealer and took out an extended warranty as well.

My car had a matching set of premium tyres (almost new) and all the receipts for the SH so I knew what I was getting in to and could check the state of the brakes etc. The previous owner of my car had had a few issues due to lack of use and hence had spent a good few £s at the local MBZ specialist which is a good sign of not shying away from things.

I've done about 6.5k miles already and the car is averaging about 40mpg with a mix of urban/open road motoring. Mine is the 7 speed gearbox and doesn't lack power/torque for my use. I've also bought a 2nd set of wheels (used 18s) with winter tyres given I cannot work from home in my job in the bad weather.

The ad you published the link for contradicts itself by the way as it says 2 owners and then 3 owners!

If you Google "E class 350CDI", the issues will be the same across both models. The CLS Shooting Brake is a rare car in case you haven't realised it, but doesn't seem to be much more expensive than an E Class estate. It will have a fair appetite for brakes (given its size) so you'd need to check the condition of these and the tyres (and signs of a fairly recent 4 wheel alignment check) as the 19 wheels are susceptible to pot hole damage & cracks.

I've started a Readers Car thread but not updated as yet as I've been too busy driving/working!!

They're a good car; had a 2012 SB for 3 years, then a facelift 2015 for another 3. Both 350d.
Get a facelift if possible, as more refined contact points, plus look out for premium plus pack, and if you can get it, airmatic.
Perfect for long trips, although they are a bit dark and cramped in the back.
Winter wheels and tyres a good idea if you want to run it 12 months.

I had mine for 12 months. I did 6k in it due to Covid and my partner off with a work colleague 😔.

Brilliant car, facelift version looks better I’m m/o. Brilliant headlights, comfy spacious room for my 6’ sons in the back.
Sold it for more than I paid for it. I’d love to but another but sadly I don’t need one..

Put a deposit down on one and going to see it this weekend at a Vauxhall dealer up in Wolverhampton. They didnt seem to know much about the car, but when i got them to check it the car has full MB history which is a win.

I wanted an E class, but it looked a bit too boxy, and just love the shape of this. Never owned a merc before (in 30 odd cars!) so figure this is a nice intro.
