Hi all

Bought this W124 Cab last week from East London in desperate need if some love.
Pics of when I picked it up

Needs some love - no history, chrome (shudder) wheels, headrests stuck, dodgy hood, windows stuck.

Got to work with a new set of wheels which I home refurbed - came out pretty well. They ET was 49 (from a CLK?) So needed some 10 and 15mm spacers

Next spent 300 quid on a new window regulator for the rear so now the hood can retract as it should.

Refitted some missing trim bits and gave the car a machine polish

Its turned out pretty well - obviously its lowered - not sure how I feel about that.

Only thing I'm debating is whether to replace front wing - tiny bit of rust on corner where it meets bumper!








Its been resprayed in 2015 and a new hood in 2016. Paintwork is great and engine seems strong - its a 220

What do you guys think it is worth out of interest once the front wing is replaced and painted or repaired?

Nice car - these 124 Cabs are future classics! Amazing waftability and built to last.

Personally I think this elegant car would look best with a set of factory 16” 8-slot alloys.

It's a great car and I'm a big fan. However, you've got the least favoured engine and it's been Barry'd. On the plus side, it's a fantastic colour and if you can get it convincingly roadworthy and counter previous MOT comments, then you might have a car you can sell.

Unless you bought it at a real steal, I doubt that you'll make masses. The market for these is small and picky so you'll be trying to tempt the fickle buyer and he'll want it cheap.

I saw this car on Car and Classic, and you’ve certainly improved it!

The colour suits the car too.

In terms of future pricing, CdeG is right - the market for great examples is very picky indeed.

The A124 became very popular a few years ago amongst the London Metropolitan media crowd. They weren’t bothered about the whole 220 vs 320 thing, but prices have softened significantly since.

Really good 320s appear to be less than £20k.

E36 AMG cars are still in a different league, but just enjoy it for what it is.

I ran around in an E220 cab for a while and was very pleasantly surprised by it. The car feels light and agile and the engine is quick enough, although it does not reward being thrashed. It is a very reliable engine, too. The A124 surely is the most undervalued of all the modern Mercedes classics. After all, the build quality is probably the highest ever seen on any car (considerably above that of regular 124s) and Mercedes convertibles have always done very well in the longer term. My advice would be to go over the mechanicals, especially the suspension, and then gradually return it to stock appearance.
