I did exactly this on my 1993 SL 500 about a year ago, mine also came with no holes for indicator repeaters but legally you do not have to have them. If you Google it says something about being able to see the front indicator if you are standing a certain distance out from the rear of the car and because the R129 has the wrap around indicator you are fine. Also, not long after fitting my wings I had an MOT done and the tester, who is very particular never even mentioned it.
I'm not sure that that is the case. The following is from the Lighting Regns 1989:
(a) A motor vehicle with three or more wheels, not being a motor bicycle combination, first used on or after 1st April 1986:
One front indicator (Category 1, 1a or 1b), one rear indicator (Category 2, 2a or 2b) and one side repeater indicator (Category 5) or, in the case of a motor vehicle having a maximum speed not exceeding 25 mph, one front indicator (Category 1, 1a or 1b) and one rear indicator (Category 2, 2a or 2b).
There are specific angles of visibility for front indicator and side repeaters, didn't see anything exempting the reqt for side repeater; IIRC, MB fitted side repeaters to Uk-market late-model R107s and all R129s; whether an MOT tester would pick it up is a different issue. No idea of precise measurements, though. I'm assuming, of course, that you R129 has a max speed of 25mph or more
