The aircon on my Vito 122 wasn’t working when I bought it a few weeks ago. I was made aware by the seller so I can’t really moan.

After many trials and tribulations I identified that there was a leak in the condenser (a common issue) and replaced it. I am now happy that there is no leak and the system has been re gassed however the aircon still doesn’t blow cold.

My research suggests that it may need reset to work after all the gas has been drained from the system. I have found that in other Mercedes this can be done by pressing a certain combination of buttons on the dash however I can’t find out how to do this in a Vito. Is anyone aware if this can be done or not? And if yes how?

Alternatively will I need to plug my van into a merc specific code reader to clear a fault code to get it to work again?

What year vito is it?
I run sprinters 2012-19 and a couple of older vito traveliners all have aircon. I'm not aware of a common problem to be honest.
Are you sure the correct amount of gas was added to the system after it was vacuumed down?
Do you have an EML light on the dash?

It’s a 2013 van.

To be honest I am having a bit of a nightmare. Just tried a few combinations of button presses to see if it has any impact on resetting the air con. The van has now had a hissy fit and threw up 7 messages on the computer, 1 for emergency lights active, and he other 6 esp related. It also made. Load of clicking noises from behind the dash and van wouldn’t start immediately like it was previously.

Just had a quick drive up the road and it seems to be driving fine but yes the Mel is now lit as well. It wasn’t previously

Odd. Gave it half an hour and started the van up, fired up immediately and all the warning lights have gone appare from the engine one.

I even think the air con might be working. The button certainly clicks now when you press it which it wasn’t doing before. Will take it for a drive later and see how it goes

Ye if you haven't got a diagnostics machine then as above leave it for a while then try starting it. I've know problems to be solved on Merc by disconnecting the battery for half an hour then reconnecting. Normally an amber EML is ok to drive on. Grab your self a cheapo plug in OBD from amazon. It will identify and clear faults. You can then google the fault codes.

Is the battery healthy? A dead battery can cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.

Does sound like a duff battery or bad connection?

Well tried the aircon yesterday whilst it was nice and warm. It’s still not cold. Everything else is now fine.

I have no experience with Vitos but on other recent MBs, when they are regassed they continue not to work until the codes have been cleared - it is so stark that KwikFit offered to refund me the cost as they thought they had failed on one occasion, but clearing the codes saw it work flawlessly. Worth a try.

Well had another look today after the van had been left for a few days. Appears I may still have a leak somewhere.

I think the compressor is working as when I switch the air con on the pressure drops down, thing is it’s now sitting around 5 when it was 20 a few days ago.

I think it’s time to visit a specialist to get it checked out properly as it’s doing my head in

Get the gas taken out, see how much comes out, then pressure tested for leaks, if it holds pressure vac test and regas.
