Current car is a V6 omega and is proper comfy, but about to relegate it to classic weekend use and when I need more seats.
Thinking about buying a mk2 SLK circa 2005 to 2009

I will be doing 2 long boring motorway journeys a week 110 miles and then comuting with a combination of Dual carriage way 20 miles and cross country B road 10 miles

It will work out about 23k miles a year.

Now one if the cars that comes up in my search is an SLK.
Are they comfy ? I would buy an auto because I'm lazy.
I would probably drive it with the top down if it wasn't raining or snowing.

Hi

I had an AMG 55 2009.

Was comfy enough to drive from Surrey to Inverness in one hit only stopping for fuel. 2 of us with weekend luggage.

I'm 6ft tall and have a 2003 R170 SLK 320 - no worries at all on long journeys.

I've had it 5 years now and have done 20,000 miles.

The R170 is generally accepted to have the smallest cabin of all the SLKs, as a point of reference.

It’s fine. With the roof down, heated seats and AirScarf on it’s a great place to be - very little wind buffeting

My wife has had both the R170 and R171. I’m 6’1” and have found both seats uncomfortable on medium e.g. London to Norfolk runs and utterly hateful on very long runs e.g. through the whole of France.

YMMV but I’d try to sit on one for over an hour uninterrupted if you are considering buying one. In all other aspects, the 350 V6 is an impressive car.

Also be very sure on a R171 to check that the rear suspension cradle isn’t completely rusted out.

We've a 2012 SLK and use it for various driving holidays, NC500 and Wales. I'm 6'3" and have no problems getting comfy.

Have had a couple of SLKs in the past, 2005 and 2009. 6ft 2in, seat has to be all the way back, but they were fine. Did a lot of long journeys in them, absolutely fine for that.

There was a mild facelift in 08 (if I remember rightly), my 09 car had a better ride than the 05.

There is a fairly good owner's video of an SLK here: https://youtu.be/mcWDoHDs1Dg

2015 R172 - 6' & no concerns. car crashes a bit and scuttle shake with the roof down but as a commuter and not a sports car it does a great job, auto box can get confused on low speed junctions (no more than others),
YMMV but I have a new job with commute so said ... treat yourself ... so I did smile

I've an R170, the seat bases are a bit thin, but it's easy enough to get a comfy position (6', light build). They cruise really well on the motorway, feels very at home at 85-90 on the motorway, probably more so than on B roads.

If you are looking at 2005-2008 SLK 280 or 350 be sure you are aware of the balance shaft issue. Google will tell you affected engine number range. Cost to repair is £3k so best to check.
