Interesting to hear your looking to upgrade the exhaust. I test drove one yesterday and the main turn off for me was it felt very muted
It is better in Sport+ but still feel it could be made a little more raucous, that said I don’t want to go too extreme as the waftability factor is a plus in my opinion. Scrump said:
MSL Birmingham seem to be one of the most experienced AMG tuners.
I have no direct experience of them.
They are the boys for anything Merc related. I know people who have entrusted beloved and expensive metal to them and not regretted it.I have no direct experience of them.
I think they're actually an approved Mercedes service centre these days too.
I have a 2015 SL400 which I've owned since new. Same fundamental engine architecture as your E43 although I think you may have some slightly different hardware (turbo's maybe?)
After about 6 months I wished I bought the SL500 instead.
Last year I was going to change it for something, but I'm quite attached to it so I thought I'd try a remap before swapping it. I'm glad I did. I found a company that were fortunately very local to me that had a reputation of specialising in the "400" series engines from MB.
These people https://www.roadrageperformance.co.uk/
A year or so on from having it done I'm still absolutely delight.
I was more concerned about torque than outright BHP numbers. I wanted it mapped to a comfortable, sale level rather then wringing every last bhp out of it and I didn't want pops and bangs. So he wrote a map for my requirements.

All set up on a rolling road.
Standard (before) reading on the RR was 325hp 470nm
After 425hp - 655nm
It was like driving a completely different vehicle, the huge increase in torque filled all the pauses in the gearbox in comfort mode. It made the car a joy to drive.
Can't recommend him highly enough. It also looks like he's moved into better premises since I saw him.
Obviously my 400 engine was in a much lower state of tune than the E43 to start with, so I potentially had far more to gain.
Have a chat with him he'll tell you exactly what the safe limit is for your engine type.

I used MSL Performance for both my previous C63 and had my current W213 E63s mapped by them, and then later wet back for a set of downpipes and a map to suit.I think they're actually an approved Mercedes service centre these days too.
Very knowledgeable and experienced with Mercs and AMGs.
My second choice was DMS, but either way im happy with MSL. Acid is the Gaffer there and he's a top bloke to deal with.
