CLK 320.

My steering wheel has remained in very good condition, but a sticky coating has gradually built up on the control buttons.
There was fluff there as well, but that has been removed using a small quantity of methylated spirit on a cotton bud.

For the sticky area, I have tried meths, hand soap, eye makeup remover, white spirit and WD40.
None of those products could remove the sticky substance. As the surface is plastic, the leather on the steering wheel rim is probably also plastic, they even did stitching smile, I was obviously careful not to use a strong chemical.

I am probably not alone in having this problem, so do any of you have the answer, about how to remove the sticky mess without damaging
the plastic ?

Thank you for your suggestion..

The product details do not mention suitability for use in plastic. I guess it is OK though, because it is probably sold in a plastic container.

I've used Goo Gone and a microfibre cloth to good effect.

The sticky stuff is a protective coating applied at manufacture which breaks down over time.
