Washing my car this afternoon and the paint has flaked off the front bumper.

Admittedly I was jet washing it, so likely my fault.

The bumper doesn’t appear to have any primer beneath the paint - is this normal for Mercedes?

I’m left wondering if I have a badly repaired car?

Is the car still under warranty?

The exact same happened to my old E-Class, I assumed it was a result of a poor smart repair prior to sale so took it back to Merc and they supplied and fitted a completely new bumper under warranty, no arguing. Wonder if its a common fault.

P.S. perhaps dont mention the jet wash...

It’s about 6 months into an approved used warranty. The car is 4 years old.

How old was yours when you claimed?

Friend of mine had his entire mercedes resprayed under warranty. Two years later and the lacquer clearcoat is already peeling on the bonnet. Certainly seems poor quality paint.

My car was about 2 years old when the paint started to peel - nearly the same location right down to the same side of the car.

It was still under manufacturers warranty but I'd owned it for about 12 months at that time, and it wasn't the supplying dealership I took the car back to as I bought it down South. Just took it to my local dealer, they sent off some photos, and a few days later they approved the repair.

I didn't see how they could argue against it - paint shouldn't peel off a vehicle unless it's been poorly painted in the first place, or poorly repaired after previous damage.

Do manufacturers say we shouldn’t jet wash cars or only use a hose ? Otherwise that looks pretty crap paint !
