Lane keeping assist
Discussion
... does not seem to be doing anything.
I have a 69 plate W177 A35 with "243 - Active Lane Keeping Assist (Camera)" and despite trying to provoke it - it doesn't seem to do anything?
Have enabled it in the menus, played with it in sensitive and normal mode, I get the white/green car between the lines light on the dash, but wandering across the lines doesn't trigger anything to happen. I don't get the "inoperative" message that a few folk seem to get, but it just does nothing?
Am I missing something obvious, or is this a dealer job? Car still well within warranty, just a bit annoying - seeing as the car as supposed to have it, it should be doing something?

If the icon goes green then its working and trust me you'd know if it was working as its lethal.
I have it permanently disabled (buried deep in the settings) so it could be that if you didnt buy the car new and the previous owner also disabled it.
I have tried drifting and seeing what happens when it's green when I get close to a line - no warning, no terrifying brake application - nothing.I have it permanently disabled (buried deep in the settings) so it could be that if you didnt buy the car new and the previous owner also disabled it.
I have played with the settings in the visible menus - it shows it switched on, but I guess I wouldn't know if it had been disabled via a hidden menu or something by the previous owner.
I can't say from reading reviews I am too keen on it, but on the wife's CX5 I don't mind it - it isn't intrusive or dangerous - it just makes the steering a bit heavy if you drift towards a line.
Its got 243 - Active Lane Keeping Assist (Camera) but no 8B8.
it was last in a Merc Dealer last Juneish (off the top of my head) - I bought it at the start of this year.
Will mention it when I get aa service done - no big deal, but just a bit of a pest that you have a feature that doesn't work.

Mercedes are actively disabling LKA and auto park on nearly all new cars prior to customer delivery, though they are not mentioning same to customers who have paid for the features. Similarly the rumour mill says MB are now doing the same on existing customer cars at service time, again without telling the customer. Time for owners to avoid MB for servicing?
Something to do with MBs lo cost implementation of these features on many cars. This one likely to be a slow burn issue. Until recently MB were still selling both features to new customers through brochures and at Dealerships, but on delivery both had been disabled.
MB failed to brief its Dealers resulting in many running around trying to fix an issue for customers that was not fixable.
Look out for “ 8B8 Active Parking Assist Reduction” in the list of build codes against your VIN. No mention of customers being compensated for withdrawal of a feature they’ve paid for.

This says permanently disabled. Any idea how it can be done on a 2021 GLE. I have it permanently disabled (buried deep in the settings) so it could be that if you didnt buy the car new and the previous owner also disabled it.

To close the loop on this a little.
The lane assist in my car does seem to do something.
At higher speeds, when the icon is green, mine will pop up with a warning if I try to cross a solid line at the edge of the carriageway, vibrate the steering a bit and put up an "invisible wall", but it will do nothing at all over a dashed line.
I was a passenger in a friends A180 and hers does a full on violent course correction when trying to cross any sort of line.
I have no idea if the A35 has a different take on things, or if mine is just a bit borked, but I'm happy with it as is to be honest. The system in the wife's Mazda is much better - it just makes the steering feel really heavy whenever you cross any line without indicating - enough that you know its doing it, but not enough that you can't just ignore it if you want to - I just assumed the Merc one would be the same. Mine seems to do so little it isn't really overly useful to have (although I guess it stops you driving clean off the motorway) and the one fitted to the A180 was terrifying.
