Hi everyone, i am thinking of getting an E63 amg 5.5 estate.
Its an itch i need to scratch after getting to drive one around mb world .

Seen this one: https://www.oakdenecollection.co.uk/cars/mercedes-...

I know its not going to be cheap to run especially compared to my golf r estate. I do around 6-8k a year so not too bad on servicing. Apart from brakes. I hear these are a bit wallet emptying!

So to my question. I am not used to buying second hand cars. Apart from one i’ve always bought nearly new cars with warranty left.

What should i be looking out for when viewing one of these beasts??

Thanks,

Mark

Tracking as these are heavy on tyres. As ever check all electrics and air con. Does everything work? Then its down to the service history from new via Mercedes! Any bills at all? Check lower body for scrapes and stone chips, then under the bonnet look closely at signs of repairs, spillages and look at the radiator and any belts! Is the battery new, possibly in the boot under the floor and open the sunroof fully and check for any signs of corrosion.

Cheers for the reply.

I assume this has a timing chain rather than a belt?? Therefore wont need replacing?

Also, does the engine cover just pop off?

Check the engine number, early(up to 13) cars had issue with a cam chain rattle(not all engines) due to chain stretch, this was rectified by a different design chain, the affected engine numbers are from 009368 up to 017984,even if the engine falls within that range, still doesn't make it an affected engine.
There is a fix for later chained engines if affected,of additional oil check valves and tensioner guides should it need them.

Peach of an engine though.

I'd also add, check its had a gearbox service.
