I have an issue with the rear driver side tyre and not sure if there are any boffins on here who can help figure out what is going on. I need to take the vehicle back again for the 5th!!!! time since buying a month ago. Excuse the long explanation but it is just to give background and info.

I bought the 2018 GLC Coupe on 16/03/21 and on picking up I noticed the rear tyre looked flat so they inflated it.
A week later the tyre sensor light came on so took back. They couldn't find a leak so re-inflated.
A week after that the light came on again so this time they decided to replace both rear tyres as they had cracks.
You guessed it less than a week later the light came on again. Was told they tested tyres twice, there is no slow puncture and sensor is working fine. They cannot find a fault.
Then today again literally 5 days later the light came on again so it's been rebooked.

But I really doubt they will figure out what is going on because the sensors are fine and the tyre has no leak according to their check last week.

This is beyond frustrating as I absolutely love this car. But it's not normal for the same tyre to keep deflating?!?! I don't understand what can cause this issue. And as mentioned it's already had a new tyre.

To a certain degree one could say just inflate it but too be honest I paid £33K for it and shouldn't have to inflate the rear tyre once a week. It's come to the point where I'm wondering if I should hand the keys back and ask for a refund. But I have never been so excited or happy about a car before and I think I might just cry if that has too happen

How can they not figure out why this is happening? Can anybody think of any explanation why just the one rear tyre would keep deflating? Is it possibly it could be a software issue?

Please help

Alloy is probably buckled/damaged/corroded, or its leaking in between the tyre and the rim edge.

Also could be the tpms/valve stem being fitted poorly. The dealer sounds incompetent.

Thanks for the response. I will certainly ask them too check that out and see if I need a new alloy. Visually the alloy looks ok but who knows

The corrosion will likely be on the bead of the alloy, so unlikely to be visible when a tyre is on, especially if they have just had the faces refurbed.

Could even be a porous alloy wheel rather than one that shows corrosion or damage, easiest thing to do is submerge it in water to check using the half moon style water baths that tyre places have, or to use a dash of washing up liquid and water then let that sit to see if any bubbles form, ask them if they have done either of those tests or ask them to replace the wheel and tyre with a different one so you aren't inconvenienced any more

Have you actually checked the tyre pressures - at least then you will know if it’s a tyre/wheel issue or a sensor issue. Secondly, are you / they resetting the tyre monitor after correcting the low pressure? If this isn’t done, the car gets upset when it notices a difference, but this only happens when the car is at speed, so if it bimbles around for a few days and then is driven faster it will suddenly identify an issue, with the “issue” potentially being tyres at the correct pressures.

It might have metal valves

When they get wheels refurbished they leave the valve in and just replace the valve core

However there is a rubber seal in the metal valve

It doesn’t like being involved in the process of wheel refurb

Eg shot blast , acid and deteriorates

Got there to remove whole valve and replace with NEW rubber valve or NEW metal valve

You were spot on! It ended up being the valve and since they've replaced the valve no further issues!

I'm so greatful becuase I love my little car smile
