I have an itch I need to scratch. I have always liked the W204 coupé. Never bought one as I bought a 330i E92 instead. The C350 seem to be as rare as hens teeth. As such I am looking for a buyers guide.

Any fundamental problems with the 350 engine? Anything to look out for?

Thank you

They are very rare - they only made them for a couple of years. I don’t really have much idea about that engine, they may have timing chain issues but you’d hear that at start up if it’s a problem.

All the coupes should have the AMG body kit, intelligent xenon lights, DAB radio and folding rear seats as standard.
The base model won’t have heated seats, reversing camera or the comand stereo with better screen and Satnav. I doubt any C350 would be in this spec. Easy to check - heated seat buttons and SD card slot on stereo for the higher spec cars.
Options will be panoramic sunroof, memory seats (buttons on drivers door) and stereo upgrade (in setup on stereo screen)

I was after one a few years ago. I figured it had 75% of the C63 performance, was a touch more civilised and less chavvy. After much searching, one finally turned up after several months at a Leeds Merc dealer. I had a look and thought it was OK (but a bit pricey) but by then our daughter was on the way, so...

They are apparently quite good but that engine was rarely bought in the UK across all their models, let alone the C Coupe specifically. I fancied seeing if I could get a 350 sedan or wagon after moving to Oz but apparently they never sold it here which is odd as they like their petrol V6s and 8s here.

I had a 2008 C350 Sport Estate. Loved it, should never have sold it and I stupidly sold it for peanuts. I had it a few years, seemed to like going through rear tyres, but probably more about my heavy right foot, but it was oh so much fun. I originally bought it direct from Merc Dealer 2nd hand. Nothing really went wrong with it, I put new disc/pads on it which where surprisingly cheap considering how big they where. Tyres where reasonable as they sell so many of the size.

I had Harman Kardon sound which was excellent, tri-climate control was really nice, elec memory seats very useful if sharing with partner.

Just one check I would do regarding a burning smell, it is a simple fix but needed to be done as could destroy the engine:-

Owned a 2012 350 coupe now for just over 18 months now.
Low mileage when I picked it up at 38k
Just about got 47k on it now.

As already mentioned they already come with a decent spec out of the box.
The only options missing from mine are the reverse camera and the cruise radar type set up I forget the name of. That could come int handy to be fair so it’s just the usual cruise on it.
Optional extras I can think of are red leather interior / pano roof.

Early days of ownership it threw a few sensors - all covered under warranty.
2 nox sensors - abs sensor - heat sensor.
They can be prone to nox sensors but hopefully the newer ones in there now should last a decent amount of time.

At 48k and zero evidence of a gearbox service that’s the next job on my list to be done soon.
Servicing at an Indy is reasonable.
Mercedes refused me a service plan as it had apparently missed a service with them at some point in its life.
So Mercedes can screw really, Indy it is for me.

It’s been pretty solid to be fair and is a fun drive.
Made one slight modification to it and installed an x pipe in place of the centre silencer. Release the V6 sound more and sounds great on acceleration and Wot.

Can be heavy on fuel if you are enjoying the car wink wink !
That said I’m really surprised at what it can achieve.
I did a journey to Newquay recently and sat at 70/75 mph on cruise control, 280 miles - 39.7 mpg used around half a tank of fuel.
Very impressed the petrol engine could do this:
Mostly because I have it down in low to mid 20’s most of the time.

Good luck with the search if you haven’t already found one.

I've got a 2010 saloon. 174,000 miles. Had it force years since about 90,000. Had torque converter rebuilt. New turbo about 10,000 miles ago. New discs and pads all round recently. I use it as a workhorse. Fantastic car. Planning on replacing it with an E400d estate when their prices fall to £25k ish.

I paid £5,500 for it. I guess it's worth about £3,500 ish now.

PS. Had wheels refurbished at same time and a new set of tyres. I'd advise a quality tyre. Budget on the rear last 5 minutes.
