I am considering buying a 2017 C class convertible and would like to ask if anyone has fitted a bike rack ? I understand a towbar has to be fitted and would prefer a removable single bike rack for an ebike. My haibike flyon weighs in an 28 kilos so I would need something substantial.

Hi thanks for the reply, yes it can I hadn't thought of that.
I've found a single removable bike rack for an e bike good to carry bike up to 30kilos but battery out is better.
Just need to know if car will accept a towbar. Pref removable from its frame too

How the hell does a Flyon bike bang in at 28kg? Most ebikes - including Haibikes top out at around 21-24kg.

Back to your query - I use a Thule Velocompact for my Haibike and Mrs DS's Cube, I remove the batteries for longer trips. Takes up to 46kg so two bikes without batteries is fine (and borderline with them still installed). That currently attaches to the towbar on my E class estate, however my next car will be either a C or E class coupe or convertible (whatever pops up at the time) and I'll be attaching the rack to that. They all have a listed towbar fitment.

The Velocompact also slides together to make it a lot smaller and I just stick mine in the boot.

Hiya thanks for your info.
Re flyon weight I am going on the info provided with the bike it has the tq motor and a huge big battery, my mates haibike has a Yamaha motor and is much lighter.
I am getting a bit nearer now to having car delivered and will visit a local towbar fitting company and fancy the buzz rack e scorpion 1 single bike rack. Good for 30kg and the detachable towbar hook.
Your setup looks really good.
I will post pics and coatings when it's all done.
