Adding Android Auto to a 2016 B-class that only has Carplay

Hi All,

Bit of a random one, a friend has picked up a 2016 B Class which has instruction manuals referencing Carplay and Andoid Auto yet the car only has Carplay.

Asked the dealer it was bought from (approved used) and they said sorry, can't add it to "earlier" cars.

However I just wanted to see if anyone had tried to do it using one of those enabling OBD things you can buy on ebay. I found 1 forum post where someone said their Merc had Carplay only and they added Android Auto with one of these things, and considering the manuals reference Android Auto it seems plausible.

However, dealer says no and online seems to suggest it is 2017 and newer cars only...

Thanks for the tip, the information is encouraging, suggesting all B class from 2015 can have the upgrade... I will investigate further!

Hi all,

In the end we bought an OBD activation tool from eBay - taking a bit of a punt for £45. It looked like this:



And it worked! Really pleased, took all of 10 seconds and added Android Auto on top of the CarPlay already enabled.

For anyone's future reference! The car is a 2016 and the dealer claimed was too early to have Android Auto.
