Hello to all I am new to this forum.

I wanted to gauge your opinions and any ownership experiences on the previous model A class A250 sport. Looking at 2013-2018 models. I am also potentially considering a Mk7 Golf Gti and was wondering which would be the better buy. Either would have to be manual but there are not many A250 manuals for sale as you can imagine but I do like the rarity factor.

Currently I drive a 2015 Ford Focus 1.5 petrol and would like to upgrade to a more upmarket hot hatch hence the Merc or the GTI smile

I've been driving an A250 for 5 years and still brings smiles per mile. I've got the auto but drive mainly in manual mode as can be a bit sleepy in Eco and too revvy in Sport, unless you're hooning around.
There are a few different 250 variants so not sure on the differences of each. I have the engineered by AMG which I was told means some difference in suspension but expect just a marketing job.
Post facelift the variants were more to do with trim level.
Get a good exhaust note on upshift between 3500-4000 and upwards of 5500. Also good pops on downshifts if that's your thing.
Can't compare to the golf as haven't driven that but would be good to hear your view as I'm looking at options when the time comes.

Hi thanks for the reply. I have seen that there are a few versions of the A250 but it seems like manual was only available in the facelift 2015 onwards. But overall it does seem to be a rare car so I accept I may not get many replies on here. Have you had any issues with yours and what is the economy like?

I have driven neither so some test drives are due once the lockdown is over. I am expecting the GTI to be the better drivers car especially in manual guise but let's see..

Economy (it’s the 2WD Auto) isn’t too bad. Motorway I get 45mpg and over 50 when in roadworks. Other than that I’m usually driving it fairly hard but getting >33mpg from most tanks, which I don’t complain about.
I’ve had a service pack that’s covered all maintenance. On 3rd set of front tyres after 40k miles (original rears, but will need doing later this year); plus will need first set of brakes soon.
