Any opinions on this?

I bought an auc last June in the midst of 1st lockdown, handover paperwork states mot included and it states on the official mercedes web site that all approved used cars come with a 12mth mot.

This cars first mot was due (2017) in April 2020 which was bang in the goverments extension period for mots due to covid, so obviously dealer saw fit not to mot the car and just sell the car under the 6mth extension period the goverment granted.

Do i have any comeback considering what they state in the paperwork they gave me and on the mercedes website?

No mention via email or verbal that the car only had 4mths of remaining time before its first mot was due in oct.

Thanks for any pointers, i must admit to feeling somewhat aggrieved at this point.

So you bought the car last June and the extended MOT ran out in October so you effectively had to mot it again last October after 4 months ownership?

Seem a bit late now to do much about it, why did you not raise it with Mercedes before it ran out last October?

Have you given Mercedes a call to see what they think ? smile

It's one thing for a private owner to use the 6 month extension, but a garage shouldn't be selling a car when the MOT had effectively expired.

I'd also have expected you to pick up on this a while ago. I always check how the MOT went at the point of purchase to make sure they've done advisories of concern.

Not made contact yet, sent email today but no response as yet..

I believed the car to have a 12mth mot when i picked it up so why would i check it online?

Its only become apparent now because it got stuck in europe & i need to use transport company to get it back to the uk which has highlighted the lack of an mot as they wont transport a car without an mot.

I think a call to mercedes themselves to get an idea alongside awaiting the dealership response is probably a good idea

Never assume anything when buying a careven if it is from a dealership. The absence of an MOT pass sheet should have rung warning bells.

Hopefully Mercedes will pit it right for you and pay for the next MOT but it is really your responsibility to make sure you have a current one.

I thought that the Approved Used Scheme gave an Mot-failure warranty, in that if a car fails its first Mot after sale they would pay up to £750 for parts (possibly labour?), or something like that. I don't recall seeing anything about being sold with 12-months Mot although, of course, a salesman might have promised something else. Happy to be corrected.

I guess seeing it ticked as being pressent on the handover sheet lead me to believe it was there amongst a fair few papers with the 2yr warranty etc, they were more concerned with triplle checking my id via 3 different people before handing me the keys.

I hope they’ put it right to, we’ll see.. l

As has been said, there is a £750 guarantee on 1st mot anyway, its inconvenient to say the least right now and a pretty poor show from an official mercedes dealership, to not even mentioning what they were doing re using the 6mth extension is pretty devious imo.
