Three year PCP is up on my car in March, and I've decided to keep it.

Looking into extended warranties, can anybody give any insight? Costs? Is it worth using Mercedes's own extended warranty or better to go elsewhere?

Any advice much appreciated. smile

I have read about official Mercedes warranties beyond the original 3 year period for cars like this...and I was truly shocked at the cost. eek
I cant remember exact figures so will let somebody else fill you in.

I’d expect a C63 owner will be along shortly to confirm, but I’d imagine the MB warranty would be about £80/month.

I have a W205 C43 (yes yes: not a real AMG etc.), and I pay £43/month for mine. It’s been well worth it, as I needed a shock absorber replacing (normally about £500) about a month after the initial 3 year manufacturer’s warranty expired.

I wouldn’t touch 3rd party warranties with a barge pole.

I wouldn't go for any warranty personally, but if I had to choose it would be with Mercedes as it's worth the paper it's printed on.
Problem is it's very expensive - I've seen quotes between £2-3K for AMG cars, which goes up the older it gets - so I'd just put the money to one side for if any issues come up.
I've used a couple of third parties before and it's always been a nightmare when I've had to make a claim, so I would avoid.

You should be able to get an instant quote here for Mercedes - https://www.mercedes-benzwarranty.co.uk/Login/Inde...

Just replaced mine in December.
On a 2015 c63 saloon w205 with 17k miles.
Im paying monthly to spread the pain. Its around 160 per month.
I think it was around 1600-1700 for one year and around 3300 for 2 years with the benefit of locking into current rates

Ooof that's expensive! Much higher than I was anticipating. Was hoping around 1k a year at most. frown

Ok so advice is to avoid third-party warranty companies and stick with Mercedes.

I'll need to decide if I want stump up that sort of money. I only do about 3k miles a year. At almost 3 years old my mileage is 8,600 miles. :/

The online quote system from Mercedes warranties won't quote me as I am still under the 3-year manufacturers warranty. I'll either give them a tinkle and ask them to quote what it will be when 3 years is up next month, or I'll wait until it has actually run out and consider it then.

Anyway thanks for all the helpful inputs - much appreciated.

If it was me I would do as already suggested and put the money away in another acount month by month (if you are disciplined enough to it), then if all is well at the end of the year you are laughing quite literally all the way to the bank. biggrin
There is no way I would be stumping up the extortionate amount that Mercedes want...certainly not for an extremely low mileage and presumably well cared for car like yours.
Yes of course things can and do go wrong, but it is meant to be a quality product.

To my way of thinking, once a car's out of manufacturer warranty is the time to seek out a good independent to look after it. That way hopefully they'll be able to anticipate any common issues and nip them in the bud, and whatever does need doing should be substantially cheaper than a franchised dealer; so then you'd hope that no single bill is going to bankrupt you, and thus that you'll be better off without a warranty.

If I was going to get any warranty it'd be an official manufacturer one, for sure. 3rd party warranties have very little incentive to pay out for any major work and are experts in finding ways to avoid doing so - having read about AngryDog's experiences with his M5, I'd not consider putting my money in that Direct-ion under any circumstances.

When mine came hp for renewal I did hope that it might be a smidgeon cheaper. However, I suppose I did benefit from 2 years warranty when I bought the car.

Its not the sort of car I would want to run if something went wrong. I own the car outright so this is my only outgoing along with a (rather good value for money imo) service pack for about 40 quid a month.
So, for 200 a month the running costs/peace of mind is sorted. Obviously consumables are not included but i only do around 4k pa.

To pit things into perspective, I vaguely recall it being a similar cost to the BMW warranty for an M3 iirc.

It is however, a lot more to run than my 993...

With the additional cost of warranty surely it would of been easier to just return the car and get a newer model C63, that came with warranty ? Or was the savings more ?

I bought mine 2 yrs ago when it had 12k miles and was 3 years old. Paid 34k from a main dealer so was a very good price at the time.
I took a 4 year loan on it and paid it off after a year. The intention is to keep it long term.
Hopefully, given its low mileage and still being relatively new, it won’t cost much to run for the next several years.
But just in case something goes badly wrong, I would hope the warranty and full MB service history would cover me.
There are cheaper cars to run (including my 993), but the C63 is a car that needs a warranty imo.
If I was buying one at 10 years old then I wouldnt bother. And would also take it straight to a specialist for maintenance
