I've been looking to buy a vehicle for months but with continious lockdown it's become difficult.
I had settled on getting a GLC but recently saw a nearly brand new GLB (20) for £36K and thought that seemed cheap compared to what they want for the GLC coupes.
Now my question is what is the difference between these two vehicles apart from the GLB being slightly blockier. I've tried googling it but couldn't really tell as they seem to have all the same features etc. Is it just that the GLB might not be as desirable?
Any help would be appreciated

As said apart from being hideous to look at, they're pretty similar. The tech etc is all the same
The GLC is definitely more premium however so are the running costs, the engine choices in the GLC are better too
Hahahaha, I actually preferred the GLB's look vs the standard GLC.The GLC is definitely more premium however so are the running costs, the engine choices in the GLC are better too
Thank you for the info. I didn't think there could be much in it but just wanted to check I'm not missing something major
We bought the GLB following the same choice as the OP.
The GLB suits our family needs better, and my wife prefers the high tech dash layout. I’m not a huge fan, but the car itself is great.
We went for the 220d Premium Plus 4 matic which appears to have a good level of spec, and delivers 46 to 50 mpg in normal use.
I have to say it feels very quick off the mark - 7.4 to sixty, so says the road test.
It’s been reliable over 6000 miles, and seems really well put together
I prefer the mini G-Class looks to the more familiar GLC.

That looks exactly like the GLB I'm interested in getting and I'm with you I like the blocky look. The GLB suits our family needs better, and my wife prefers the high tech dash layout. I’m not a huge fan, but the car itself is great.

Glad to hear that you've been very happy with it. I just think it's a lot of money to pay without test driving a car (not allowed to at the moment) but it's swayed me a bit away from the GLC coupe which I wanted
I've spent a lot of time with both models - here are my thoughts:
The GLC is one seriously good all-rounder. The ride is sublime, the cabin is plush and there is more than enough space to play with for all occasions - Coupe included. Refinement is very good at high speeds too. All UK models come with 4MATIC and the 2019 facelift added the new engine range to the mix - the 300 petrol is fantastically smooth but the 300 d is the one I'd recommend if a lot of your driving is out of town.
The GLB is in my "love it" list. Having parked one next to a G-Class and looked at the two together I could really see where the styling came from. The car drives brilliantly - much more like a car than an SUV, especially with 4MATIC fitted. The second row can slide if a little bit more space is needed for third row passengers or boot space and the load capacity is almost the same as the GLC.
GLB has weight on its side compared to GLC and even being mildly late one morning the GLB 220 d 4MATIC (my personal pick of the range) was showing 46 mpg by the time I got to the office. Getting 50-60+ mpg on a long motorway drive is easy. Servicing costs tend to be a little lower for GLB as it's part of the compact family.
The vast majority of GLBs that I've come across have been Premium specification - Premium Plus is well worth going for with the huge panoramic roof and the Driving Assistance Package being included as standard - this is usually £1,495 for compact models, £1,695 for C-Class family models but worth every penny if you like radar guided cruise control.
A tough choice as they both have their star qualities. The GLC is such a relaxing place to be but I do have a big soft spot for the GLB and the way it corners as confidently and flat as a CLA when you're pressing on.
The keys for a GLB are what I tend to reach for if given the choice between the two.

Thank you for all the info, it is really informative. You've only gone and made my decision even harder! The GLC is one seriously good all-rounder. Interesting question - I was looking at the MB USA website the other day!
Had a few loaner GLC's and actually quite like them. Does just feel like a lifted C-class and thats probably not a bad thing as such. Plenty of room on the inside and drive well, even in 2.0 T form. Impressive. Even commented to my wife that the one I had for a few days (recall on my car) made a good excuse for getting the bottom of the range of a premium car vs the top of the range of a cheap car! BUT, if infotainment is a question, be careful with what is on the inside. For some odd reason, the GLC (and C-class) have been lagging. The A-class and GLB models get the newer MB-UX system and the functionality that comes with it! Older GLC's were, in some cases, a couple of generations behind and couldnt even do Carplay / Android Auto! Be cautious.
As for the GLB, its quite funky I suppose, if a little dull. Seen a few and it certainly ticks the 'boxy but good' box and seems nice. From what I have seen though, its very color and wheel sensitive though. Needs a good color and decent wheels to make the design a little smarter. Small wheels with a naff color (like white) does show a little too much plastic and cheapness in my book.
Oh, and obviously both are available in AMG versions with the GLC coming in 63 and 63S variants. But, I never knew until I looked, but the GLB comes in A35 variant. Cant help thinking that might be a little secret blast to drive! Debadge, nice wheels and stealth color - but 300BHP and a 5.1 second sprint to 60.... in a smaller SUV? Cant go wrong with that!
